June 3 – Silly

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAAre you good at being silly?  We sure are — as demonstrated in this Photo-A-Day Challenge photo for today.   The word for June 3 is Silly.

I took this as a selfie photo of the three of us.  I think I was talking at the time so that is why my mouth is open. My husband had tripped and got that bruise on his head.  Ian was smiling before and after this photo.

As we wore these red noses, we all sounded funny.  It cracked us up as we tried to talk and sounded so very different.  We certainly didn’t sound like ourselves and that made us laugh and be even sillier.

We bought these noses in support of the recent Red Nose Day, a fundraiser for childhood poverty. This is a serious problem that we hope and pray will be changed.  NBC recently had a three-hour special and raised quite a bit of money.

Isn’t it fun to laugh?  I am serious when needed, but there are times that I love to let loose and just laugh and laugh.  Silliness is something I can be very good at.

People say that laughter is good for the soul.  I have to agree and know there is nothing like being silly and laughing.

A few silly and funny things I am thankful for:

  • Sharing a private joke with a friend or family member
  • Giggles with my childhood friends
  • My son’s laugh and joy about life
  • My husband’s sense of humor and wit
  • The laughter of my family
  • Tickle time
  • The ability to make a fool of myself at times
  • Play time for the family
  • Laughing at favorite shows and movies
  • Laughing until I cry
  • Laughing until my sides hurt
  • Laughing until I can’t remember why
  • And then laughing some more
  • Having fun with friends and family

I wonder what silly things we will be doing today?  I am certainly looking forward to finding out!  Have a great one!

May 28 – Pink

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Hi and Happy Thursday.  For today’s Photo-A-Day Challenge, our word is Pink.  And, since it is also Throwback Thursday, I decided to use this photo from several years ago at the beach.

We were enjoying a cool evening with the breeze blowing in our hair.  Ian was quite young when this was taken. And, I am without any makeup, which is unusual for me.

I like the color pink – especially bright pink like I am wearing in this picture.  Pink is pretty in the sky at sunrise or sunset.  The colors across the sky are lovely.  I also like pink flowers and trees, and the color of my niece’s pointe shoes that she recently got for ballet.

Pink also is the name of a great singer, the first name of Pink Floyd, the color for breast cancer awareness, the color of girls and all things girly, the color of flamingos, and fabulous fuchsia.

I wonder what things I will see today that are pink?  I will be on the lookout for them.  Have a great one!

Throwback Thursday – My Heart

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Thursday!  Today’s Photo-A-Day Challenge is Heart.  This little guy has my heart.  Our sweet son is so precious to both my husband and me.  We love him so much. We have a special bond.  I am so appreciative of that and all that he is.

This photo was taken at San Diego Zoo many years ago.  This partial xylophone was in the kids section and Ian was having a great time trying to play it.  Maestro, ready, set, go!

I never realized how it would feel to have part of my heart walking around in this little person.  And, also realizing he has heard my heartbeat from the inside is quite profound.

Today I am thankful for:

  • A boy who still loves music as much as on this day at the zoo
  • My husband and son — the two loves of my life
  • My parents and siblings who I have known my entire life
  • Friends who make me laugh
  • Friends who I share a joke with
  • A friend going home from the hospital with good news
  • Family who I will get to see this summer
  • Other family who although I won’t see this year, we still keep in touch
  • A homemade mother’s day card
  • Amazing teachers who have meant so much to Ian this year
  • Friends made through school activities
  • Messy morning hair
  • Hugs and kisses
  • Hearing “I love you”
  • My many blessings

I wonder what fun things we will do with Ian this evening and upcoming weekend? I can’t wait to find out and enjoy being with my sweet boy.

May 5 – Red

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy May 5th!  Today’s photo-a-day challenge is Red.  This is one of my two favorite colors. I like both red and turquoise the best.

This photo was taken many years ago of Ian.  He had drawn red marker on his legs.  Thankfully he didn’t get much else covered.

For some reason, he decided to color his legs this particular day, but not a piece of paper.  I still don’t know why.  I do know that it took a while to get all of the paint off his legs and many, many baths.

In addition to his red legs, I like the red on his T-shirt and shoes.  It was a fun outfit and all about the summer.

Red is a vibrant color and is full of passion.  I like to wear it as a lipstick color and nail polish, and on blouses as well. Turquoise reminds me of the ocean and more serene things. I also have jewelry and clothing that is turquoise that I really like.

Together these two colors are lovely. I have a ring that has both colors, which I love to wear. It is my favorite.  I bought it at the beach and hope to find another one this summer.

I wonder what other red things I will find today?  A tomato, a pretty flower, a painting that Ian made? I will be on the lookout for these and so much more!

Photo-A-Day Catch Up #2

Hi and Happy Wednesday.  Today, I have a few more days to catch up on in the April Photo-A-Day Challenge.  April 13 was Paper, April 14 was Up and April 15 is Dinner.

April 13 – Paper

4-13_POD_PaperFor this one, I decided to go way back to one of my favorite notes from Ian.  He was still a little guy so he couldn’t write very much.  He could, however sign his name.

Now he is very good with his penmanship and writes very sweet notes.  He created a special card for me for my birthday.  And, he has something in mind for Mother’s Day.

I cannot wait!!!

April 14 – Up

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAFor April 14, the challenge was Up.  I chose a photo taken during our visit to South Carolina last summer.  We were driving across this amazing bridge.

I liked the height of the bridge and the pending storm.  There is a lot going on as you look up.

April 15 – Dinner

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFor this one, I went back a few years too.  Ian was enjoying a special treat  for his birthday.  His expression is great, isn’t it?  He seems to be savoring the hamburger, chocolate milk, and fries.

Now he prefers chicken nuggets to hamburgers.  Some of his faves are cheese quesadillas with refried beans, and chicken teriyaki with rice.

I wonder what we’ll have for dinner tonight?  Not sure, but I am sure it will be something yummy.  Have a great day!

Photo-A-Day Catch Up

Hi and Happy Wednesday.  I am behind on my photo a day challenge.  So here are a few.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAApril 2nd – Building

For last Thursday’s picture, I chose a building that I saw while in Charleston, SC.

There is so much amazing architecture there.  It is a lovely town and fun to visit. We had a great time with my cousins, as we always do.

I turned this into a black and white photo since I thought it looked really nice this way.

What do you think?  What building would you choose?

April 6 — A Shape

I skipped a few days since I couldn’t find my list for the weekend.  Anyway, here is a photo of our plastic Easter eggs for the egg hunt at my parent’s house on Sunday.

We filled 200 eggs full of yummy candy for the egg hunt.   Ian and his cousins had a lot of fun and got lots of great candy.  Fun times.

What shape would you choose?  Square, circle, triangle, octagon?  There are so many choices.

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAApril 7 – Beauty

This one was a challenge since there are so many things that are beautiful — a child laughing, a smiling baby, the eyes of a loved one, love between generations, laughing at a joke with a dear friend, a sunrise, a sunset, the Grand Canyon, mountain vistas, and flowers blooming in spring.

I decided to go with a newly budding tree. It shows the beauty of nature and the beauty of spring.  There is new life this time of year and that to me is beautiful.

Again, what would you choose for beautiful?

I wonder what else I will see for a building photo, a shape photo, and a beauty photo?  I am sure there will be plenty of choices.  I can’t wait!  Have a great day.

February 14 – Love

POD_3-7-2014_FlyHi and Happy Valentine’s Day.  Today’s Photo Challenge is Love.  How fitting for a day all about love.  My photos are of my two greatest loves — my wonderful husband and our amazing son. These two men mean the world to me and I am so glad to have them as my family.  I love them very differently yet both fully and with all that I am.

So it got me to thinking, how can you illustrate or define love? As you know, there are many types of love and definitions. We love our mates and children differently, we love our families and friends in other ways, we love our pets in a different way, and there is our love of God and our faith.  All of these loves are valid and real to us.

To me love is — given every day, compassion, forgiveness, honesty, kindness, generosity, patience, partnership, unconditional, raw and messy at times, beautiful, passion, being there for the good and bad in life, support, and forever.

There is a line in the movie “Love Story” that has always bothered me.  “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”  I totally disagree.  To me, love means you should say you are sorry.  Not too much that it means nothing, but when needed it should be said.

We all make mistakes and hurt one another.  Yet, because of love we can say we are sorry, change our behavior, and forgive one another.  And then you can move past the problem and continue to love.

One of the best descriptions of love is in 1st Corinthians 13: 4-8. Kirk and I had this read on our wedding day.  It meant the world to both of us.  This is from the New International Version of the Bible:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast. It is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

Isn’t that beautiful?  If only we could love others that way.  We are called by Christ to love others — including our enemies and those who seem the least lovable.  All of us need to be loved by someone.  My hope and prayer is that we can be more loving to those around us.

Today I am thankful for:

  • My husband for loving me as I am and being an amazing partner in all things
  • Our son who is the light of our life and an amazing gift
  • My parents who taught me what love is all about
  • My siblings (and in-laws) who I love to be with and admire so very much
  • My cousins who are true and real friends
  • My in-laws who are a wonderful addition to my family
  • My aunts and uncles who have taught me so much
  • My friends who I treasure — both old and new
  • My grandparents who demonstrated their love for one another
  • My nieces and nephews who enrich my world and are great friends to Ian
  • Our school and church friends who mean so much to the three of and who are teaching Ian so many things
  • Our community and neighbors who make us feel truly at home

May you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day full of love!  Whether or not you have a special someone, I hope and pray that you will know that you are loved.

February 11 — On The Wall

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThis posting is a day late since I was sick yesterday.  I am feeling better today so I thought I’d catch back up.

For February 11, the Photo-A-Day Challenge was On The Wall.  This painting is on the wall of my den and means a lot to me.

Not many people probably have an oil painting of a beloved dog, but my grandfather did.  Before he passed away, he gave the painting to me, signed “To Patti” and included his initials. He then wanted me to take it home.

“Are you sure Grandpa,” I asked him.  “Yes, Patti.  We know you like it (or something like that).”

Unfortunately I don’t remember exactly what he said.  I was beyond moved as this painting held a special place in Grandpa and Grandma’s living room.  This dog was his and Grandma’s beloved miniature schnauzer Schatzi.  She was a great dog and so loving.  She was my favorite and Grandpa knew it.  Talk about a special gift.

The artist really captured how cute and sweet she was.  She had floppy ears and was full of life.  To this day, I still like Miniature Schnauzers.  When I was growing up, we had our own named Eva.  She was a sweetie too but scared of her own shadow.

Now, Ian is wanting a dog but he likes the larger breeds.  We will have to see what we can do in terms of a pet.  Not quite ready for that and all of the responsibility but they sure bring a lot of love.

I wonder what other special treasure I will come across today?  I look forward to finding out what is in store.

February 9 – Energy

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Monday.  Hope you had a great weekend.  Mine was very low-key and we used little energy as we are trying to get over colds.

We had time to just veg out, catch up on shows, read, build new Lego creations, and talk.  Also, we were in our pj’s for most of the weekend.  With so much always going on, this down time was really nice.

I am, however, ready to get back to our normal routine and have us be feeling good and not sick.  I took Ian to the doctor Saturday morning.  He had a flu test and a strep test and both came back negative.  Thank goodness for that!  So far, no fever!  Yeah. That is great news!

Normally Ian is a bundle of energy.  I remember days before he went to school that he would talk all day.  He still can talk a lot when he is at home, but now he takes time to play by himself.  He also likes to build things, color, read, and do so much more.  I so love listening to his ideas.

This photo is an old one of Ian. We were at a beach in Florida and he was excited and ready to go.  Talk about energy!  Don’t kids amaze you?  They do me.  Unless Ian is sick, he goes 125 percent from when he wakes up until bed time.  I just wish I had the energy he does.

Today I am thankful for:

  • Listening to Ian explain a Lego build
  • Broccoli and cheese soup
  • Footed pajamas and warm socks
  • Time to relax and be lazy at home
  • My family and friends
  • Good health
  • Hugs from my hubby and son
  • Laughing about a family joke
  • Planning time with friends
  • Lunch dates with Kirk

I wonder how much energy will be used the rest of today?  Probably quite a bit.  Should be fun!

February 5 – Something Blue

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Thursday.  Today’s photo challenge is Something Blue.  Since it is also Throwback Thursday, I thought it would be fun to include this photo of Ian at the beach.

I love his calm face, his posture, and the setting.  I don’t remember exactly why he was sitting like that, but he looks like he is saying a quick prayer.  Or he is enjoying the sound of the ocean and the feel of the breeze and thinking about what he will be doing next.

I am pretty sure, however, that he jumped up soon after this picture was taken to go and play in the sand.  Sitting still at this age was rare.

I love the color blue — especially the blue of the ocean and the lovely sky.  I can look at both the ocean and sky and be calmed and happy.  My favorite shade of blue is actually turquoise.  I also like royal blue.  I like these bright bold colors.  One of my favorite blouses includes both of these colors of blue.

Today I am thankful for:

  • A bright blue winter sky
  • Looking at Ian’s blue eyes as he tells me good morning
  • Memories of fun times at the beach
  • Incorporating the color blue in our baby shower decorations before Ian was born
  • The lovely blue ocean as it touches the horizon
  • The turquoise blue beach house
  • Handwritten notes from my hubby and son telling me they love me
  • Getting better after feeling blue
  • Our soft blue and white blanket on the couch
  • Family vacations
  • Homework that gets done quickly

I wonder what else I will see that is blue or that makes me smile?  Can’t wait to find out!  Have a great day!
