April 27 — Messy

Messy_4-27-2016Today’s photo challenge is Messy.  I think this picture shows it very well. This was taken about 6 years ago after Ian had enjoyed a messy dinner and then some chocolate cake.  And then he was done for the night, after that sugar high wore off.

Those were the days of high chair messes, and bibs, and clothes that had to be cleaned after each meal. He had fun finger painting with the remnants of this cake. He also really liked the taste of it. Amazing so much time has flown by since this photo was taken.

These days he isn’t messy with his meals, except for spaghetti at times can be difficult.  He now really doesn’t like things on this hands and tries to be neat. Well, as neat as an active and busy boy can be.

Not only have our meals been messy at times, our house is often messy.  I keep working on my piles of stuff but often don’t get to them as quickly as my hubby would like. Laundry is a never-ending project and the car needs to be washed.  Also, the toy room floor is covered with Lego elements in various states of progress.

Life is also messy.  Relationships can be messy at times and the way we often treat each other is messy. We aren’t perfect and do the best we can. I make mistakes, I spill food and liquids both on my clothes and the floor, I am too loud at times, and I run into things. I am messy and fine with admitting it.

I have come to terms with that fact and love that my hubby can put up with my interest piles, my less than stellar cleaning, and meals made with love and many dishes. I am not the slob that I once was but still have some work to do.  A few of my college roommates can attest to that. I am blessed with a hubby who helps around the house.

Today I am thankful for:

  • Messy early morning hair
  • Piles of Ian’s school work and drawings
  • The mess of baking cookies
  • A washer and dryer that are used most days of the week
  • Boxes and boxes of family photos to be scanned
  • Laughs with long-time friends
  • A movie date with my hubby
  • Ian’s creativity with all of his Lego builds
  • Lunches with family and friends
  • Midweek dinners with my parents
  • My amazing and understanding husband
  • My messy yet wonderful life

I wonder if I will always be messy?  I have a feeling that I will, although not as bad as Pig Pen.  I am a continuing work in progress and am trying to be more neat and tidy. What about you?  Are you messy or neat?

September 5 – Sparkle

Hi and Happy Saturday!  Today’s Photo-A-Day Challenge is Sparkle.  I thought this photo captured that very nicely.  I love how the sun is sparkling on the water and the wet sand.

This was taken several years ago at my favorite beach at sunset.  I have seen hundreds of lovely sunsets at this location, perhaps even thousands. And, I have taken numerous pictures.  Each night is different and lovely in itself.

I really love the sparkle the sun makes on the ocean water both at sunset and during the day.  During the day the lovely blue water shines like diamonds.  In the evening, it takes on a different hue with the pinks, reds, and oranges.

Sparkle as a verb is defined as “shine brightly with flashes of light” and “be vivacious and witty.” As a noun, it is defined as “a glittering flash of light” and “vivacity and wit.”  I think this photo captures the light part. And, it is fun to be witty and vivacious.  I hope I have both of these covered.

Here are some quotes on sparkle:

  • “Never let anyone dull your sparkle.” — Unknown.
  • “Don’t be afraid to sparkle a little brighter.” — Unknown
  • “Dream Big. Sparkle More. Shine Brightly.” — Unknown
  • “People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.” — Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
  • “Consider the fact that maybe…just maybe…beauty and worth aren’t found in a makeup bottle, or a salon-fresh hairstyle, or a fabulous outfit. Maybe our sparkle comes from somewhere deeper inside, somewhere so pure and authentic and REAL, it doesn’t need gloss or polish or glitter to shine.”–Mandy Hale
  • “Do more of what makes you sparkle.” — Unknown

I am all for being our best and pursuing our dreams.  And I agree that true beauty comes from within.  So let’s sparkle, be ourselves, and love our life!

Hope you have a great holiday weekend!

March 26 – I Am Here

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Wednesday!  Today’s photo challenge is “I Am Here.”

I am spending time on the computer this morning while Ian is at school.  This is the view out of my home office.  It is a lovely sunny day but quite cold. I love our neighborhood and the design of the homes.  It is a fun place to live where we know quite a few of our neighbors.

As I am here, I am thinking of getting my day started and all of the things that I need to do.  As usual, there are many.  And, I am thinking of many dear family and friends on my mind today.  They are in my thoughts and prayers.

Life can often be tough and I am so very thankful to have people in my life who give it meaning.  These people make sharing funny times even better and make the sad and tough times easier by just being together.

Today I am thankful for:

  • The beauty of a sunrise
  • A hug and kiss from my son as he goes to school
  • Saying hello to his teacher and classmates and sometimes getting a hug from a student
  • The chance to eat breakfast with my hubby
  • News and weather updates so I know what the day has in store
  • Checking out books from our city’s library and seeing Ian read them after school
  • Starting to read a new book
  • A toothless smile
  • The ability to write and share my ideas and thoughts with others
  • Taking pictures of lovely scenes
  • Love and acceptance
  • Singing along with a favorite song on the radio
  • Praying with loved ones
  • A cold glass of water
  • A garage that keeps the car warm on a cold day
  • A laundry room that is used every single day
  • Looking forward to visits with friends
  • Sharing a laugh with someone special

I wonder what else I will find to be thankful for today?  I am sure there will be many things.  And, I hope that I can be in the moment today and truly enjoy the here and now.

Hope you have a wonderful day as well!

February 21 – Funny

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Friday!  I just want to say – TGIF!!  How do you like my roses in the header photo?  Aren’t they lovely?  With all of the cold recently, I thought a picture of some pretty flowers was needed.

Today’s photo challenge is Funny.  I decided to include this photo of my son from several years ago at the beach. Caption for photo, “That’s funny Mommy, wet sand feels very different than dry sand.”

As you can see, he is a ham for the camera.  He loves to make funny faces and big expressions and I just love it!  We laugh and crack ourselves up. Isn’t that what childhood is about?!

I don’t know about you but I love funny things, funny quotes, funny shows and movies, and funny people.  My son is pretty funny and has a great sense of humor for someone so young. I love to hear him laugh. When something or someone tickles him, he totally lets go and enjoys the moment.  Kids are so awesome for that.

It is important to me to find the funny things in life and be around people who make me laugh.  I love getting together with my close friends and family and sharing a laugh and a special story.

Last night I went out to dinner with some friends who I have known since high school.  Once a month we have a girls night out.  It’s not always the same people, but whoever gets together has a blast.  We laugh about memories and people from years ago as well as things more current in our life.  It is always fun.

A few of the funniest famous people ever, in my opinion, are Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, the entire cast of Golden Girls, the cast of Designing Women, Bill Cosby and the entire cast of The Cosby Show, Jerry Seinfeld, the cast of Psych, the cast of Friends, Ellen DeGeneres, and Dick Van Dyke.  I know there are others but this is who I can think of right not. Who would you add to this list?

I hope that you can find a funny person to spend time with today.  And, I hope you can find things that will make you laugh.  After all, laughter is good for the soul.  And who can’t use more of that?

I wonder if I will find a few things that are funny today?  I sure hope so!

October 8 – Corner

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Tuesday. Today’s photo challenge is Corner.

Here is one corner of my front porch.  It is a pretty spot to look around the neighborhood.

Even though the space is small, Ian sometimes likes to crouch in the corner and play or look around for ants or other items in the yard.

The picture was taken in the morning.  You can see the shadows.

Here are a few quotes about corners:

    • “There’s only one corner of the of the universe you can be certain of improving; and that’s your own self.” — Aldous Huxley
    • “Still round the corner there may wait, a new road or a secret gate.” — J.R.R. Tolkien
    • “No one has a corner on success.  It is his who pays the price.” — Orison Sweet Marden
    • “You can’t stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.” — A.A. Milne
    • “None of us knows what the next change is going to be, what unexpected opportunity is just around the corner, waiting a few months of a few years to change all the tenor of our lives.” — Kathleen Norris

No matter what corners you are dealing with today, may you have a blessed day.

September 5 – Here Forever / Throwback Thursday

POD_Sept5_Here.ForeverHi and Happy Thursday.  Today I decided on one photo for two things.

First is for the photo challenge.  It is Here Forever,  I believe the ocean and beach will be here forever.  Besides we just love it!

This photo of Ian was taken about 3 years ago so it also works for Throwback Thursday.  He always has such fun at the beach.

I love the look of joy on his face.  So happy, content, and ready for adventure.  And, in motion as he usually was and still is.

I think we can learn a lot from our children and how they approach life.  I know that I have.

In addition to the ocean, sun, and beach being forever, my love for my son and my hubby/his father will be here forever too.  Well, at least as long as I am here.

I wonder what other items I can find that will be here forever? Should be fun to find out.

September 3 – Lines

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAHello and Happy Tuesday!  Today’s photo challenge is Lines.

As I was taking photos this morning on my walk home from Ian’s school, I saw lines everywhere.  Funny since I normally don’t notice them like I did today.

I saw the power lines, lines on the sidewalks and buildings, and on the fence in front of our house.  I decided to go with lines on part of the sidewalk.  I thought it was different and made for a cool picture.

Lines also make me think of music and Tuesday Tunes!

Ian has been singing Bon Jovi songs lately, since I love to listen to this group.  It is priceless hearing him sing “Wanted Dead or Alive” and messing up on the words.

Or “It’s My Life.” — “It’s now or never, I ain’t gonna live forever… I just wanna live while I’m alive,”

Every once in a while, he will ask me what the words mean.  I love that he listens so closely and likes to sing along.

Lines of all kinds are all around us and have many different meanings.

Here are a few quotes about lines:

  • “The best listeners listen between the lines.” — Nina Malkin
  • “Straight lines go too quickly to appreciate the pleasures of the journey…” — Rene Crevel
  • Grandchildren are the dots that connect the lines from generation to generation.” — Lois Wyse
  • “Just say the lines and don’t trip over the furniture.” — Noel Coward
  • “You know, I’ve got wrinkles on my forehead and smile lines, but what’s wrong with that? I love to smile.” — Jennifer Aniston

I wonder what lines I will see the rest of the day? I will be on the lookout for them.

August 28 – Corridor

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHello and Happy Wednesday!

Today’s challenge is Corridor, or hallway.

Ian walks down a long one to get to his classroom, but I didn’t have the camera with me this morning.

So I decided to use an outdoor corridor.  This is a long deck along the back of a house we visited.  It is pretty and I think gets the idea.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

August 12 – Macro

Hi and Happy Monday!  Can you believe that it’s the start of another week? These weekends always seem to go too fast!

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAToday’s photo challenge is Macro.  This is an extreme close-up.

Here is my extreme close-up of a bundt cake that my hubby made.  He put chocolate frosting on it and sprinkles.  That really impressed my son.

What do you think?  It looks like a cool crater.

It’s mostly in focus and clear, although with a bit of shadow.  Overall, though, I am pretty pleased.

Until tomorrow, what photos are you taking?
