And The Winner Is…

moviesThis is the phrase used many times last night prior to giving out Oscars.  It was a great celebration of the movies.  Last night I stayed up to watch the entire Oscars broadcast and am so glad I did.  It was a fun evening, although this morning I am tired since I didn’t sleep well and was up so late.

After the tough weekend and not feeling well, it was fun to laugh and enjoy the show.  Ellen DeGeneres did a great job as host and was funny without being too mean to anyone.  She just poked fun.  And the fact that she actually ordered pizza and then handed it out was great, as was the Twitter-crashing photo of her with some of the stars.

I was pleased with most of the winners and especially liked the musical performances for the nominated songs.  As usual U2 was great and performed their wonderful song really well, I enjoyed Pink’s performance with the different phrasing, and Bette Midler brought me to tears with “Wind Beneath My Wings.”  I have liked that song since “Beaches.”  The fact that so many winners were truly thankful was also really nice to see.

I also liked the fashions, including the fact that the men were more colorful with their tuxes, and the ladies wore some lovely gowns.  And, the acceptance speeches by and large were very well done.  It was nice to see so many people being so truly touched by winning.   How about you?  What were some of your favorites?

I have to admit that I hadn’t seen any of the nominated movies and hope to soon on DVD.  These all look amazing but we have been so busy with school, work, family time and friends, that movies often don’t get seen very often.  We’ll have to see some before the next award season starts.

Today I wanted to write about the awards as well as a few of my Monday’s Musings.

**Hello and welcome to March!  This is the month when the time changes — next week already– when we spring forward and lose an hour.  I don’t like the loss of one hour of sleep but do like the fact that it stays lighter longer.

March is also when Spring begins!!!  Yeah.  The date is March 20 and I am so ready.  Not that it will be spring-like that day but I can hope.

**My son is back to school today and feeling better.  I now, however, am not feeling the best and that isn’t fun.  The fact I didn’t get much sleep last night doesn’t help.  Two nights ago, I slept nearly 12 hours and then last night, I kept waking up worried about the power going out and that Ian was okay.   Too much on my mind, I imagine.

Hopefully this week will be better and things will start to look brighter.  I have been praying a lot and am feeling love of family and friends as well as the Lord and the prayer support.  That is fantastic.

**May you have a really good week.  I am going to try to do the same.

A Taste of Winter / Monday’s Musings

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Monday!  It is hard to believe that it’s already the last week of January.  Seems like the new year just started.

Saturday’s photo challenge was A Taste of Winter.  Here is a photo that I took a few weeks ago when we had a little bit of snow.  I like this holly bush in my yard. I meant to post this then but then got busy on a few things. You know how that goes, I am sure.

Part of this weekend was cold but then it was warmer than it’s been.  However, a cold snap is coming later today for the next few.  A much colder winter this year than we have had in a while. We still haven’t had much snow though, which is probably just as well.  I know of several people who have been dealing with a lot of it.

Mondays’ Musings is something I may start on Monday mornings if I have a variety of items to write about.  I may not be using the word musings quite right but it sounds fun.

**This weekend was a good one and we had some down time, some time with friends, and then some time to play and get out of the house.

We went to dinner on Saturday night with one of my best friends.  We hadn’t seen her in months and it was so great to catch up.  She had been quite sick and thankfully, she is feeling better.

It was fun to hang out and visit and just be together.  I had truly missed seeing her and was so glad we were able to work it out.  Thank goodness for dear friends!

**On Sunday, we went to church and heard a great sermon about love and living like you are dying.  The pastor was talking about what true love is and that not only is it important to tell people we love them but also show to them.  He also wanted us to remember to be really and truly thankful for each and every day.  He mentioned that we are never promised tomorrow.  It was a thought-provoking sermon and one that was really well given.

I hadn’t realized how closely Ian was listening until he gave me a note just before bed.  He had asked me to write a few words down for him, but I didn’t know what he was working on.  It was the note, which states, “To Mommy From Ian.  Mommy, I will love you forever.”  Wow, how amazing and sweet is that.  I have to say I teared up and told him “I will love you forever too.”  He then kissed my hand and gave me a hug.

The love of a child — there is nothing like it.  So pure, and honest, and unconditional.  It is given just as Pastor was saying love is supposed to be. I was truly moved and was amazed at my son.  He truly is a blessing!

**Last night was the Grammy awards telecast.  I had seen some ads about it but then when the time came for it to come on, I was interested in other shows.  Two of them I watched were Downton Abbey and Sherlock, both on PBS.  Both of these are amazingly well written, clever, and full of amazing and rich characters.  Just like a favorite character in a great book, these are so rich and well-drawn that you almost wish you could meet them.  Well, at least I do.

The writing, dialogue, and acting are wonderful.  As a writer, I am inspired and in awe of the talents of the people who bring us these shows.  I laughed, cried, and laughed some more.  One of the funniest lines I have heard in a long time was, “He’s clueing for looks.”  I don’t want to mess up the plot if you haven’t seen it, but it was perfect for the situation and oh so funny!

***Those are a few of my musings for this morning.  Do you have any musings you’d like to share?  Please do! Hope you have a great day!
