Family Reunion Fun

Nothing says summer like the ocean and the beach!

Hi and Happy July! Hope you are having a great summer!  I just returned from a wonderful week in San Diego, CA.  I was there with my family for a family reunion and 50th anniversary celebration.

It was fun spending time with so many loved ones.  I am blessed to have a family who despite our many differences, we have learned a way to have fun and enjoy being together.  We have lively discussions and don’t agree with everything, but still respect one another’s opinion.  And, love underlies all that we do.

I love these people so very much.  So, it was a true and amazing blessing to see them — parents, aunts and uncles, cousins, siblings, nieces and nephews, and friends.  So many people and so much love.  My grandparents would have loved seeing all of us!

Over the years of growing up, we spent a lot of summers together.  We have many fond memories of our time together.  Now, many of my cousins and I have our own children who are also enjoying time together.  Now, four generations have enjoyed this special family time.

Because of our week of visiting, laughing, eating, walking, swimming, and enjoying the ocean and beach, I have been off the computer.  Taking a break was nice but I am glad to be back.  I plan to write more regularly for the rest of the month and summer.

Our reunion party included a 50th Anniversary celebration for my parents.  This was in the same room of the family church where my great-grandparents had celebrated their 50th.  In another room at the same church, my grandparents celebrated their 50th as well.  It is wonderful to have such long line of great marriages in our family.

A few highlights were:

  • Eating dinner on the beach house porch with 22 other family members
  • Catching up with cousins
  • Family sing-along time around a piano
  • The lovely harmonies of a favorite family song
  • My aunt’s amazing piano playing by ear
  • Old family photos
  • Breakfast out with family at a favorite location
  • Posing for new photos with more family members and friends
  • Walks on the beach
  • Swimming in the bay
  • Spending a few nights at the beach house
  • Holding hands and praying before meals
  • Swimming at the motel one morning with my brother, sister, and our families
  • Getting fish tacos with my cousin and another time with my siblings and our families
  • A trip to the bead store
  • Traveling to the mountains with my mom and her two sisters
  • Watching Ian have fun with his cousins
  • Standing at the sea wall at sunset
  • Ice cream treats from the ice cream truck
  • Time with my parents and celebrating their long and amazing marriage

I wonder when I will next see my amazing and wonderful family?  I sure hope it’s soon.  I so love all of them and cannot wait to see them again.

Throwback Thursday – Warmer Days

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Throwback Thursday!  This morning, there was frost on the ground and houses and the temperature was in the 20s.  So I decided to post a picture of a fun summer day at the beach.

This was taken four years ago at Mission Bay in California.  Ian was having fun discovering sand and sand castles.  His hands were covered with sand and he looks like he is trying to figure out how to clean his hands.  We always have fun at the bay and beach.

I am so over the winter weather and the cloudy skies.  I want sun and warm weather.  We have had quite a few days of rain and cold weather but no snow yet. It would be nice to have at least one day of snow but who knows?

Until then, I will be wearing a scarf, a hat, and my gloves with my winter coat when I go outside.  I will also be covering my mouth and walking quickly.  In addition, I staying inside as much as possible.

A warm and bright picture like this one helps warm me up.  How about you?

Today I am thankful for:

  • The gorgeous turquoise scarf my sister made for me
  • A photo of the ocean
  • Hot tea with cream
  • Warm blankets
  • Fuzzy socks
  • Sunshine trying to peek through the clouds
  • The upcoming long weekend
  • Remembering fun vacations

I wonder when the warm-up will be?  According to the meteorologists, it will start this weekend.  Well, it will be in the 50s, so that is something.  Take care and have a great winter!

Throwback Thursday – Summer Fun

Ian.bay.readyHi and Happy Thursday.  Hope you are having a great last day of July! Today is unusually cool and will be rainy.  Odd for July weather.  It’s normally hot, humid and very dry, but not this year.

For today’s picture, I decided on a photo of Ian from 2009, when he wasn’t quite two years old.  This was his second trip to San Diego.  This photo is of my little sea monster coming out of the bay.

Some friends of ours let us borrow the wet suit, which was way too big.  And, we had the life jacket on top to help him while in the water.  He had a hard time moving around but still had fun.

He has grown a lot since then and is now more comfortable in the water.  He loves to swim in pools and likes getting his feet wet in the ocean.  Next time we are in San Diego, we will have to try this bay again.  It is so nice and calm for swimming.

This week we have found several fun things to do as our summer winds down. These things include:

  • Ian and his friend playing mini-golf
  • Dinner out with friends
  • Ice cream cones
  • A birthday party
  • Watching Paw Patrol
  • Being amazed at Ian’s Lego creations
  • Enjoying a leftover dinner of noodles, meat, and soy sauce that Ian said was delicious
  • Reading
  • Watching a baseball game and cheering for our team
  • Ian putting on his helmet and riding his bike

This coming weekend we look forward to time to swim and more time to relax.  Should be a fun one, but then again, I think it’s supposed to be raining.  Oh well, we can figure out what to do inside.

I wonder what other fun adventures this week will bring?  I can’t wait to find out.  Have a great one!
