Fun on Friday

Fun_8-12-2016Hi and Happy Friday! Today’s photo challenge is Fun. Here is one take on fun. This is one of my favorite pictures of Ian taken at sunset at the beach many years ago.

I love his facial expression and think he is ready to take on the world and have tons of fun. Or he is ready to dive in.

I love to have fun and enjoy doing so. Sometimes as adult, it isn’t always possible but I do try to regularly make time for fun. With a child, it is easier to be sure to have fun each day.

DSC00210According to Dictionary.com, fun is defined as something that provides mirth or amusement; and enjoyment or playfulness. This first photo embodies that to me. The second one is also fun and a fond memory.

Fun to me is:

  • Watching records be broken during the Olympics
  • Watching a funny movie
  • Reading a favorite book
  • Getting my feet wet at the beach
  • Holding Ian’s hand in the surf
  • Holding Kirk’s hand on walks
  • Swimming at the pool with my parents
  • Coloring with my pencils
  • Completing word finds
  • Talking a walk at the beach
  • Laughing with Ian and Kirk
  • Playing a game of Pounce
  • Playing a board game
  • Pizza night with games and company
  • Time for my dad, his dog, and Ian to be together
  • Helping my mother with the family history
  • Discussing our soap with my mother
  • Spending time watching Ian build Lego creations
  • Laughing until we cry
  • Girls night dinners
  • Time with siblings and our spouses and kids
  • Visits with cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and grandparents
  • Laughing with old friends
  • Singing along with the radio or favorite song
  • Dancing
  • Watching Ian learn something new
  • Helping at Ian’s school and with the PTO
  • Having time to wander in a new city
  • Browsing a used book store
  • Getting treats from a neighborhood bakery
  • Having special cuddle time
  • Our weekend routine
  • Lazy time at home on the weekend
  • Weekly visits with my parents
  • Walking home from school with Ian

What is fun to you?  Do you try to have fun each day?  I hope you do!  Have a great and fun weekend.

Flashback Friday – May 1st

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy 1st Day of May!  Hope you have a great Friday!  I don’t know about you, but I have to say, TGIF!  This has been a crazy busy week and I am ready for the weekend.

I totally missed Throwback Thursday yesterday, so I decided to write a Flashback Friday instead.  Here is a photo of Ian from 5 years ago.  It was taken during a visit by our local fire department to the kid’s reading program at the library.

He was fascinated at sitting in the driver’s seat of the fire truck. I love seeing the huge steering wheel next to his short legs and little feet.  He is way too small for the spot but seems to be enjoying it just the same.

Today I am thankful for:

  • Our city’s library and the amazing books
  • Our city fire department and other services
  • Girls’ Night Out with dear friends
  • Yummy food and wine
  • Hats to cover up a bad hair day
  • Laughing at jokes and shared stories
  • Play time for Ian with a friend
  • Date night with hubby
  • My mom’s pot roast and potatoes
  • My dad reading with Ian and helping him with projects
  • Hugs between grandparents and grandson
  • Early mornings with my guys
  • Hearing good news
  • Answers to prayer
  • My home and community
  • My loved ones

I wonder what this Friday will bring?  I cannot wait to find out and am looking forward to it.  Hope you have a great one.

Throwback Thursday – Summer Fun

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Throwback Thursday.  Since summer is winding down, I thought it would be fun to post an old photo of my son with my dad at the beach.  This was taken in July 2010, so Ian was a few months away from turning 3 years old.

I love how dad is showing Ian the fun of the ocean waves on your toes. And the feel of wet sand, and the importance of holding hands so you don’t fall over.

Four generations of my family have enjoyed this beach and I just love that.  There is much history there and many amazing memories.  I am so blessed to have gone there as a child and now to be able to take my child. It has also been fun to be there with my husband.

Today I am thankful for:

  • Summers spent at our family’s beach house
  • Toes in the sand
  • Feeling the water on our toes and legs
  • Spending time with parents and grandparents during the summer
  • Small feet that have grown quite a bit
  • Many years of fun memories
  • A chance to have four generations at the beach a few summers ago — something I will never forget
  • Our smooth transition from summer to school
  • A family who I love dearly and who love me
  • Friends who make me laugh and help me smile
  • Prayer support

I wonder what other fun things we will do before summer officially ends on September 23?  I look forward to finding out.  And, I also am looking forward to the fall/autumn season.

Summer Time

Hope you are having a wonderful summer!

I have always liked the summer. There is more time to slow down and enjoy life and get outside and be active.  This summer, we are enjoying walks in the evening around the neighborhood while Ian rides his tricycle.  It’s still early enough, that the humidity isn’t too high yet.

Later in the summer we have to either be inside in the air conditioning or enjoying some body of water.  We enjoy the chance to go swimming at the pool, be on the lake and a friend’s new boat, or go to the beach.

Not everyone likes the beach, but I always have.  There is something magical and calming to me about the ebb and flow of the waves.  When I am stressed and can stand and look at that water and feel the breeze and breath deeply, it just calms me down.  How about you?

In fact, the background picture on my computer is a photo of me at the shoreline.  Each time I look at that picture, I smile and remember a fun time and marvel at the beauty of the sun, waves, and sand.

Over the past five years, I have been fortunate to go with my family to two very different but equally fabulous beaches.

The first was on Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce, Florida.  This was the first beach that Ian went to as a baby.  He was fascinated at the feel of the sand in his fingers and on his toes.  Here he is exploring this beach.

This is a great shelling beach and I have found a vase full of gorgeous treasures.  Each time I went to the sand, I came back with my pockets full of shells.

Only residents and visitors would go to this beach since it was right in front of a community.  So, there were times when we were the only ones there and that was quite special.

Also, the water was a lovely turquoise color and the waves were calm enough to have Ian get his feet wet as he got a little bit older.

The second beach is Mission Beach in San Diego, California (pictured at the top of this blog).  I have told you about this beach many times.  This is the one my family went to as I was growing up.  I have photos of when I was about 6 months old at this beach.  And, there is a picture of me crawling very quickly towards the water.

At this beach, there is a lot of seaweed, very strong waves which are great for surfing or body surfing, and chilly water.  It is perfect for a hot summer day to take a dip in this water.  You come out feeling reinvigorated.

I have always liked a sunset into the ocean and have seen hundreds of them over the years.  And, I grew up wearing a sweater at sunset since it always cooled down just a little.

The first time that Ian went with me to this beach was incredibly special and I realized how blessed I was that we now have four generations of our family who have enjoyed that same sand and surf.

Whatever your favorites are in the summer, I hope you can enjoy them to the fullest!

Happy summer.
