Flashback Friday – Bare Feet

3.kids.Michigan0001Hi and happy Friday!  For today’s Flashback Friday, I decided to post a photo of my sister, my brother, and me with our bare feet on a sand dune circa late 1970s / early 1980s.

I like our big grins, bare feet, and hands in the sand. With all of the cold weather this week, this photo made me happy. And warm.  I also like our striped shirts, the patches on my jeans, and that all of our jeans are riding up as we sit in the nice warm sand.

This particular trip was somewhere in Michigan at the dunes.  We enjoyed them and were fascinated with this different sand than we were used to.

This photo was taken while we were visiting friends and family.  We had a great time.  During this trip we also went to a plant where they packaged cereal.  I still vividly remember recreating the process in our friend’s basement after seeing the professionals at work.

I have many fond memories of growing up with these two.  Our parents were great about taking us to a variety of towns and cities throughout the country.  We also enjoyed many camping trips.  I am at left in the photo, Cindy is in the middle, and Richmond is on the right.

I am thankful for:

  • Camping trips with my parents and siblings
  • Family adventures
  • Food cooked over a camp fire
  • Playing cards with the family
  • Singing our favorite camp songs after eating s’mores
  • Cassette tapes that played during long car trips
  • Seeing these dunes for the first time on this trip
  • Crossing the border into Canada for dinner
  • Old and grainy photos
  • Scanners for old photos
  • Bonfires on the beach
  • Running around after sunset
  • My wonderful and amazing family

I wonder what the next adventures will be with my sister and brother and with our parents?  I cannot wait to find out and love that our spouses and children will be there to enjoy the adventures with us!  Three generations will be even more fun!

February 19 – Feet

POD_2-19_FeetHi and Happy Wednesday!  Today’s photo challenge is Feet. I decided to choose one very old photo and then two more recent.

Here is a picture of me as a very young child with my mother to the left and her mother (my grandmother) to the right.  This is special because we are at the beach where I still go with my family today.  And, having the three generations together for such a walk is pretty great.

I have many years of fond memories spending time at this beach with my mom and grandma.  Not from this long ago of course, but my memory is long.  This grandma passed away in 2000.  She is still missed and loved beyond measure.

Feet.2Speaking of Ian, here is a picture of his feet while at another beach — this one in Florida.  He loved the feel of sand in his toes as I always have.

His cute little feet have grown quite a bit since this photo was taken.  It is amazing how quickly kids change, isn’t it?

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAThis other photo is of Ian a few years later.  He is with his cousin who was taking a surfing lesson.  They both were having fun trying out the board.

My family and I do love having our feet on the sand — whether a California beach or a Florida beach.  There is nothing like the feel of sand in your toes and the surf washing over your feet.

I just thought of the “Foot Book” by Dr. Seuss that Ian just loves.  “How many feet do you meet?”

I wonder what feet I will see today?  I hope to see quite a few as that means seeing quite a few people. Hope you will as well.

Some Random Thoughts

Hi to you!  Hope you are having a great first official day of summer!

Looks like it will be hot in a large part of the country today!  Try and stay and cool.

Our first day is so far so good.  This morning we watched a show about the Duggar family (which had 16 kids at the time of this special) as they went on a road trip to Disneyland.

It was amazing to see the stuff they took with them — just food and clothing overfilled their motor home.  They had to move some items to a separate trailer just so the motor home could go up the hill.

Ian was fascinated watching their adventures and trying to understand that many people in a family.  We’ll be enjoying a family reunion this summer with nearly that number in a small house.  So, we’ll see what it’s like.  Should be fun!!

As you know I have been working on losing weight.  This week my sister-in-law gave me a great suggestion for an exercise video.  I am going to see if I can find it.  I like being able to exercise at home or in my neighborhood so this will fit in nicely!

Over the last few weeks, I haven’t been losing very much weight, but I have noticed that my body’s shape is changing.  And for that I am happy.  Some of my clothes are fitting better and are more comfortable.

I have to remember that the changes aren’t only on the scale.  In addition, the exercise is getting easier and I can do things for a longer period of time.  My baby steps seem to be working!

This week, my husband has made Ian a house out of a cardboard box.  They added a mailbox, doorknob, hook for a jacket inside, and a lock.  And, Ian has keys.

He is having a great time with his house.  And, learning the responsibility of keeping up with his keys is really important.  He has drawn a few pictures on the walls — one of a big truck and the other of clouds in the sky — including frames.

The guy time has been great for them and also for me.

Hope you have a great rest of the week!  Please share some of what you are doing this summer!  I would love to hear from you!
