Hi and Happy 1st Monday of 2014. Is it cold where you live? It is where I live and it’s supposed to get colder throughout the day.
Overnight we got a dusting of snow on top of some frozen rain. It didn’t amount to much precipitation but is quite cold. I am so not used to these temperatures. Thankfully, we don’t have to go anywhere today or tomorrow — except to get the mail from our box. I will have to carefully time that.
Today I am thankful for a warm house, heaters that work, underground utilities, hot coffee, grits and turkey sausage for breakfast, and warm blankets and slippers. I think we’ll have hot soup for lunch and I will cook something in the oven so we can warm up the kitchen.
I took a few photos this morning of that dusting of snow. I think it’s pretty and makes the whole neighborhood look cold and wintry.
Stay warm and safe! May you have a good day and if you have to be out in it, please bundle up and be careful. Today I will be praying for everyone who has to work outside.
A few quotes about winter:
- “It is the life of the crystal, the architect of the flake, the fire of the frost, the soul of the sunbeam. This crisp winter air is full of it.”~John Burroughs, “Winter Sunshine”
- “I prefer winter and Fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape — the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show.”~Andrew Wyeth
- “Winter is a time of promise because there is so little to do — or because you can now and then permit yourself the luxury of thinking so.”~Stanley Crawford
- “One kind word can warm three winter months.” ~Japanese Proverb
