Happy 8th Birthday to Ian!

n539281610_366595_2660Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Ian, Happy birthday to you!  Kirk and I sang that song for him this morning during his breakfast.

Right before we did, Ian asked me, “Mom, can this be a birthday breakfast?.”  I said,   “Sure Ian.”  We then got the lighter and his candle. He blew out his 8 candle, ate his breakfast, and then opened his birthday presents.

He was happy to open them and have us talk about the day he was born.  However, he said he wasn’t 8 years old yet since it wasn’t yet the time that he was born.  This comment made me smile.

Last night, Ian helped me make cupcakes for his class for snack time.  He was thrilled about that. Tonight we will celebrate some more.  Then tomorrow will be parties and more fun.

On this rainy Friday morning, Ian went to school and was happy to be there.  I think he will have fun celebrating with his classmates.

Today I am thankful for:

  • A child who smiles as he opens his gifts
  • A boy who reads pages from his new book before school starts
  • Morning hugs and cuddles
  • Birthday fun and celebrations
  • Time with dear friends and family
  • Watching Ian as he looks at baby pictures and sees information about his birth
  • The blessing of motherhood
  • My husband and son
  • Hot coffee with creamer
  • Raincoats on a messy morning
  • A garage door opener
  • Socks and rain boots
  • The start of fall break
  • 8 birthdays with Ian

I wonder how our birthday weekend will be?  I think it will be fun and very special.  And, I cannot wait to enjoy it!

My Family Rocks!

girls at beachI don’t know about you but I have a fabulous family!!!

Yesterday was a luncheon celebration for my sister’s birthday.  Her name is Cindy and she rocks.  Here we are as kids.  I wanted to post this picture again since it is one of my favorites of the two of us!

We had a great time at a new restaurant.  I had a Cobb salad and fried green tomatoes — yummy.  Others had burgers or other salads.

It just so happens that this place is owned by two guys from my high school class.  I thought that was cool.

Anyway, we had 17 people at the table for lunch and it was fantastic.  My parents were there as well as me with Kirk and Ian.  Also, there were my sister and her hubby and two kids; my brother, his wife, and two kids, and my cousin, her hubby and one of her two kids and my aunt.

It was a table of love and happiness.  And many great memories!

I enjoyed talking to my brother and sister-in-law about their vacation they were returning from, catching up with all of the kids and their summer plans, my cousin and sister about a variety of items, and chatting with everyone.

We also took quite a few pictures as we always do!!

We enjoyed a great lunch, sang happy birthday, my sister blew out her candles, and then we enjoyed a delicious cake with yellow flowers.

My family has always made a big deal about birthdays.  We celebrate each member of the family and that has always been special.

It was great to visit with everyone and have such fun!!

I hope that you too have a rockin’ family!!

Weekend of Rest

Ian_pirateWell, it’s Monday again.  Seems like we were just here!

This week so far is better than last was and I am so glad of that!  We are feeling better and back to our usual routine.

On Friday, Ian went to his preschool class and was thrilled to be there.  He was out sick the rest of the week so it was nice to have him back.  He had a fun day and was happy to tell me about it when I picked him up!

Then Saturday morning, we went to the birthday part of a girl in his class.  The theme was Tinkerbell and pirates.  Ian dressed up as a pirate and had a great time.  Kirk made him a sword out of a yardstick and paint stick with tape, and we rolled up his pants and used a few scarves for the rest of the costume.  Here he is all dressed up!

It was great!  We received quite a few compliments for our creativity.  It was fun and Ian loved it.  After the party, the three of us went to Ian’s favorite Mexican restaurant.  The food was good as always and our usual waiters were glad to see us.

We then came back mid-afternoon and Ian and both took naps for a few hours.  I hadn’t planned on that but we both needed it.

After we woke up, it was time for dinner and watching the movie Unstoppable.  Ian was fascinated with the train and how fast it went.  It is a great movie!

Sunday was a real day of rest.  I feel bad that we skipped church again but we needed to.  All three of us have been fighting a bad cold for a week and needed a bit more time to rest and get better.

We had a nice breakfast, worked on puzzles, read, watched television, colored in a lighthouse coloring book, had some time on our computers, and Ian made three books of cars, vans, and buses.  We also had a good lunch and dinner.

It wasn’t the most exciting weekend but one where there was time to rest.  All day Sunday it rained, so this morning there isn’t the layer of pollen everywhere. I think that has helped all of us.   Hopefully this week will be better and the pollen will stay away for a while.

I wonder what adventures this week will bring!  I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to find out.
