Flashback Friday – Mom Edition

FF.Mom_5Hi and Happy Friday.  I don’t know about you but I am so glad it is Friday.  For today’s Flashback Friday, it is the Mom edition.  Enjoy!

FF.Mom_1This first photo is from years and years ago of me with Mom at the beach house.  We as usual had windblown hair and were wearing our sunglasses.  It is one of my favorites of the two of us. The next is on the same porch when I was very young (and so were my parents).

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms.  I want to wish my mother, my mother-in-law, my sister, my sisters-in-law, my aunts, cousins, nieces, and friends a very Happy Mother’s Day!  May you have wonderful and special celebrations.

I want to say thanks to my mom for all that she taught me.  She loved my siblings and me and was always there for us.  She showed us what mothering is all about. I am fortunate to have learned from her how to be a mother for my own child.

FF.Mom_2Until I became a mother I had no idea what it felt like to have your heart living outside of your body. Or having a little person who has heard a mom’s heart from the inside.  Wow! Motherhood is a gift and I am happy to be a part of the club.

Not to say it’s always easy because it isn’t.  There are struggles and many tough times but with other mothers to help and our spouses, the journey seems easier. Thanks to all of the moms in my life who have taught me, supported me, and have been there for me.

A few quotes about mothers:

  • “All mothers are working mothers.” ~ Author Unknown
  • “When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.” ~ Sophia Loren
  • “Mother — that was the bank where we deposited all our hurts and worries.” ~ T. DeWitt Talmage
  • “Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.” ~ Marion C. Garretty
  • “A mom’s hug lasts long after she lets go.” ~ Author Unknown

Happy Mother’s Day!  Hope you enjoy your weekend.  I plan to.

Hi Ian’s Mom

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAThis morning one of Ian’s friends said, “Hi Ian’s Mom” to me in the hallway before school.  He had to speak up since I didn’t see him at first.  I said hello in return and smiled.  We then  each went our separate ways.

This friend was in the same 1st grade class as Ian, but this year is in a different class.  They are in Cub Scouts together so we still see him. That is nice for Ian and for me since I like this young man.

Ian’s Mom is who I am known as at Ian’s school and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Kids call me that as well as some of the parents.  His friends in his Cub Scout den also call me that.  Other parents, and the teachers and staff know me as Patti and the PTO secretary.

I love being his mom and love him so very much.  I love that he has made friends and continues to do so.  I love that he enjoys going to school.  He is such a sweet boy and so much fun to know and listen to.  Kirk and I are truly blessed to be his parents.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn two days, we will celebrate Ian’s birthday.  He will be 8 years old.  Wow, our sweet baby is really growing up.

The changes that have occurred in his lifetime are just amazing.  He went from crawling, to walking, to running.  From no speech to early words to talking endlessly some days.  He went from thinking he would never learn to read, to reading toddler books, to recently finishing “James and The Giant Peach.”

He now wakes himself up, makes his breakfast, and gets himself ready for school.  He has an alarm set to help him wake up.  So far so good with that.  Next week though is fall break and I told him we won’t be using the alarm clock.  He reluctantly said okay.

Our boy is a young man now.  He is getting very tall and outgrowing clothing and shoes. In the mornings, I often ask him if he has had his growing machine on at night.  He laughs and says, “No Mom.  I am just growing.”

n539281610_366595_2660Before that day 8 years ago, I never knew how much love I had to give.  I didn’t know that I could put someone else’s needs before my own with middle of the night feedings and lack of sleep.  I didn’t realize that someone would be listening and carefully watching all that I do in order to learn for himself.  I didn’t realize that my heart would live outside my body in such a small yet amazing package.

The job of parents is daunting and very hard at times.  After all, our job is to love them, teach them how to behave, to be kind to others, and provide them with discipline.  Then when they are grown, to prepare them for the outside world and eventually say goodbye and leave our home.

It is also the most fulfilling and precious time of my life, of my life with Kirk as co-parents on this journey.  We want the best for our son and do all we can to provide that.  Not only with money and material things, but in special moments and times together, and creating memories.  We listen to him when he talks to us and live in the moment with him.

I teach Ian many things but he continues to teach me each and every day.  From him, I have learned to live in the moment.  I have learned to be truly thankful for each day.  I have learned what love truly is all about.  Ian, I thank you for that and am so proud that you call me Mom.  Your Dad and I love so so very much!

Throwback Thursday – My Heart

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Thursday!  Today’s Photo-A-Day Challenge is Heart.  This little guy has my heart.  Our sweet son is so precious to both my husband and me.  We love him so much. We have a special bond.  I am so appreciative of that and all that he is.

This photo was taken at San Diego Zoo many years ago.  This partial xylophone was in the kids section and Ian was having a great time trying to play it.  Maestro, ready, set, go!

I never realized how it would feel to have part of my heart walking around in this little person.  And, also realizing he has heard my heartbeat from the inside is quite profound.

Today I am thankful for:

  • A boy who still loves music as much as on this day at the zoo
  • My husband and son — the two loves of my life
  • My parents and siblings who I have known my entire life
  • Friends who make me laugh
  • Friends who I share a joke with
  • A friend going home from the hospital with good news
  • Family who I will get to see this summer
  • Other family who although I won’t see this year, we still keep in touch
  • A homemade mother’s day card
  • Amazing teachers who have meant so much to Ian this year
  • Friends made through school activities
  • Messy morning hair
  • Hugs and kisses
  • Hearing “I love you”
  • My many blessings

I wonder what fun things we will do with Ian this evening and upcoming weekend? I can’t wait to find out and enjoy being with my sweet boy.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERATomorrow is Mother’s Day.  I decided to write this today since we will be busy tomorrow with a variety of activities. Happy early Mother’s Day!!!!!

I am blessed to know, love, and spend lots of time with my mother!  (Here I am last year with my mother and son at a Mother’s Day luncheon).

A special note to my Mom:

*Thanks Mom for all that you taught me and have done for me over the years!  And you still continue to do so much for me, and my husband, and our son.

*When I was a child, I didn’t appreciate you as I should have when you were at home helping us with all of our activities.  I suppose I took it for granted and didn’t know any better.  Now that I have my own son, I see what you did in a new light.  Now I appreciate all that you did to make my childhood so special.  Mom, I Love You so very much!!!

I also want to say Happy Mother’s Day to my mother-in-law, sister, sisters-in-law, cousins, aunts, nieces, and friends.   All of you are great mothers and people who I have learned a lot from.  It is so nice to have such strong women and great mothers in my circle of people.  You all rock!!!

1596Being a mother has been one of the most rewarding, yet most challenging things ever in my life.  I never expected to love my son as much as I do, or his daddy so much.

I never appreciated my own mother more than the first night we brought him home from the hospital.  And, even though I am a grown woman, I still want my mommy when I don’t feel well.

Moms are amazing and I am privileged to be a part of the mom club.

To my mother, I want to say thank you for:

  • Loving me as much as you did and still do
  • Teaching me the meaning of family
  • Showing love and what a marriage should be
  • Demonstrating a mother’s love and what it means
  • Providing discipline as it was needed
  • Encouraging me throughout my life
  • Passing along your love of music, reading, singing, and family time to me
  • Showing the importance of friendships and staying in regular touch
  • Sharing my motherhood adventure with me and my siblings
  • Being there when I have needed you

To my mother, the mothers in my family, and my friends who are moms, I love you all and am so glad to be on this mom adventure with you.  May you have a fun and blessed day!

I wonder what new mothering adventures I will have with Ian.  I can’t wait to find out and have my friends and family with me.

Throwback Thursday / Happy Mother’s Day

n539281610_366595_2660 In honor of the upcoming Mother’s Day, here are two great photos for Throwback Thursday.

The first is of me as a new mom.  This was the first week after Ian came home from the NICU and after his first bath.  He was just there for four days and we were so happy when he did come home.

Ian was a big baby – 9 lbs 15 oz — so he never wore newborn clothing.  He was in the NICU for breathing issues and problems with his sucking.  Thankfully his pediatrician found out the problem, took care of it, and then he was fine.

I am thankful for my sweet boy and my husband who is helping me teach him and love him and have fun with him.

SRP.72.Bill.Mairzy.Patti.late1960sThe second is me with my mom and dad when I was a young child.  We are sitting together on our beach house front porch many, many years ago. I love this location and these two people very much.

I am blessed to have a mom who taught me a lot and who is as crazy about her grandkids as her kids.  That is a real blessing. Thanks Mom for all you have done for me and all that you have taught me.  I can never thank you enough.

A few quotes about motherhood:

  • “Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.” ~Author Unknown
  • “The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” ~Rajneesh
  • “All mothers are working mothers.” ~Author Unknown
  • “When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.” ~Sophia Loren

I wonder what new mom adventures I will have today?  I can’t wait to see Ian after school and see what happens!

Happy late Birthday Mom!

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAYesterday was my mother’s birthday!

We had such fun celebrating with her both yesterday and during a family party on Saturday.

I didn’t take the time to write anything then.  But I did want to wish her well and say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU online.

I love my Mom and love that we are friends.  She has taught me so much – both as a child and now that I too am a parent. She is a great example for me and I am so thankful for her.

Like me, she loves to read, sing, take photos, spend time with family and friends.  And, she loves her children and grandchildren more than words.

Here are a few pictures of us.  The first one is with her on Mother’s Day earlier this year with Ian. The other two are from many, many years ago.SRP.34_Mairy.Patti.Artha.1968 SRP.72.Bill.Mairzy.Patti.late1960s The first is me with my mother and her mother.  We were having fun at the beach.  The last picture is of me with both of my parents.

Thanks Mom for everything!  I love you very much.

My Mother, My Friend

1596Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful mother!

I am very fortunate to have a mother who is loving, caring, intelligent, fun, and loves to be with her family.

She has taught me a lot of wonderful things — both as a child and now as a parent.  I am so thankful to have her as my mom since she is such a blessing in my life.

Mom will always first and foremost be my mother.  But it has been nice as an adult and a parent of my own child, to also have her as a friend.

Here we are pictured together when I was very, very young!  I love this picture of the two of us.

Mom was a stay-at-home mother who was active in my childhood and that of my sister and brother.  She would take us to various activities, practices, and the Camp Fire groups as well.

We also loved to go camping and to the beach house that was her parents.   In addition, we were active in church activities, including choir, and various items in our town.

We worked together on our family genealogy book in the early 80s.  During that time, research had to be done at libraries and going to graveyards.  No online databases were available.  Now, she is working on updating this book, but this time has the help of the computer.  How cool is that?!

My son Ian loves to be with his grandma.  They like to read and chat about all kinds of things, and look up pictures on the computer.  In addition, when we aren’t with her he likes to talk to her on the phone.  “Hi Gramma,” he’ll say.  The fact that he knows her is so precious to me.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERALast summer we had a great time at the beach.  Here Mom and I are pictured with my sister Cindy.  This is one of our favorite places!!! Thanks to Mom and Dad for having this beach house to go to!!!

I realize how blessed I truly am to have grown up in the family I did — both my immediate family and extended family.  I learned so much about love, respect, differences in people, and what family truly means.

And, I look forward to teaching my son the same things.  I love that Mom can help me with these lessons!

I love you Mom!  So glad we get to go to church on Mother’s Day morning with you and then enjoy brunch with some other dear family members!  We are blessed!!

Happy Mother’s Day also to the other wonderful women in my life who are mothers.

To my sisters, aunts, grandmother, cousins, niece, and friends, may you have a fun and blessed mother ‘s day!

May you have a great day with your family!!!!!!!  Love you all as well.

——————————-

To my husband and son who are the reason that I am a mother, thank you!  You both are so precious to me and I am blessed to enjoy each day with the two of you.

To you Ian, I am trying to be the best mommy for you.  I love you with all my heart and always will!

I wonder if I will be as good a mother for my son as my mother was for me.  I hope and pray that I am!!
