Let The Summer Begin!

Nothing says summer like the ocean and the beach!

Nothing says summer like the ocean and the beach!

Although the calendar doesn’t say it is summer yet, we are starting our summer today.  Ian’s last day of school was yesterday, so let the summer begin!  Have you started your summer?

As I picked him up for one last walk home, one of the teachers said school starts back the first week of August.  Sheesh, we are just starting the summer break and we get reminded of when we start again.  I am ready to enjoy some down time and less structured days.

So we have approximately nine weeks of summer.  We plan to enjoy each and every one of those weeks!  We will then be ready for 2nd grade.  It seems that summers were longer when I was in school.  Then again, we didn’t have a week or two of fall break either.

This morning I had hoped to sleep in.  However, as anyone with young kids knows, that is a hard wish to have come true.  At 7:15 a.m., I heard, “Mom, are you ready to get up?”  “No Ian, not yet,” I responded and then tried to go back to sleep.

Then at 7:30 a.m., “Mom, are you getting up now?”  “No! I don’t want to get up this early. Why don’t you go play?,” I asked, trying not to be annoyed.  And off he went.

Next time I looked at the clock it was 8:15 a.m.  I woke up and was thankful that he was happy to play by himself during those 45 minutes.  I feel blessed and well rested.  I finally got out of bed at 8:30 a.m.

Funny that before being married and having kids I could sleep until almost noon, if I had been out late the night before.  Now, 8 a.m. is sleeping in.  Amazing how life changes, isn’t it?!  We had a lazy few hours after waking up.

Then we ate breakfast at 10 a.m. and have been busy ever since.  We have been doing laundry, some work for the family business, reading, and watching some TV.  Ian has been busy with Lego builds, reading his library books, and now is on the computer.

And, he has been telling me a lot about Mine craft and different Lego themes.  He knows a lot and has much to say.  It is fun hearing about things he is interested in.

Today we will more than likely stay in our pajamas, which I enjoy doing every once in a while. So, our first day of summer is exactly what I wanted — lazy and time to do various things at home.

This summer we will have more lazy days, take a few trips to North Carolina and one trip to California, swim, eat ice cream, take walks and bike rides, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, work, read books, have lots of play time, and enjoy lots of other things.

I wonder what fun our summer will bring?  I can’t wait to find out.  Have a great one!

The Blessing of Being Lazy

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe have had a lazy weekend at home and it’s been great!  It is exactly what we have needed so it is our true blessing of being lazy.

For the past few weeks, we have all been fighting coughs, headaches and sinus drainage.  Not at all fun.  It seems to be taking forever to get over this crud.  Lazy time is great and just the ticket.

Friday night we vegged out after getting Ian from school, Saturday we watched some Christmas movies, did a little bit of work around the house, read our library books, Ian played a lot, and we ate dinner from the crock pot.  The pork chops cooked for about 6 hours, and we also had green beans and mashed potatoes. Delicious.

Today was church and then lunch at home, and another lazy afternoon of more Christmas movies, preparing lists, and deciding on info for the Christmas card, and more reading.  And, some time for exercise and a nap on the couch.

I have to say that this will be the only weekend this month devoted to laziness and being at home.  The rest of the time we will be busy with activities and spending time with family and friends.  I have loved each minute of our laziness.

Tomorrow is back to school and work and our normal routine.  And we have a cub scout outing tomorrow night.  We are ready and rested and for that I am truly thankful and blessed!

Today I am thankful for:

  • Hugs and lots of cuddles
  • Praying before a meal with my guys
  • Spending Saturday in our pajamas
  • Making lists and checking them twice
  • Cooking breakfast and watching our favorite shows on a lazy Saturday morning
  • Working on our Christmas card
  • Christmas movies
  • Popcorn and hot chocolate
  • Christmas music at church
  • Lighting another candle on the advent wreath
  • Christmas tree lights
  • Peppermint sticks
  • Naps on the couch
  • Warm blankets
  • Plenty of drinks

I wonder if I will have time to rest as this busy month continues?  I hope we can but doubt there will be much time as there has been this weekend.

Happy Sunday!

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHope you are having a great and lazy weekend!  Sundays are great for that, aren’t they?

I had a great weekend — attending a writing seminar and having time with friends and family.  I will be writing some about that tomorrow and throughout the week.

This photo was taken 2 years ago at the beach.  It just says relaxation to me.  It is on the deck of a great restaurant at my favorite beach.

What have you done this weekend?  Did you get some lazy time?  Hope you did and hope you had a great time.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring?  I am looking forward to all that is in store.

Lazy But Yucky Weekend

sad faceHi and happy Saturday.  Hope you have been having a good one.

My son and I are both under the weather so ours has been very lazy.  We’ve both had computer time, watched television, Ian has been playing, and I am close to finishing a great book.

We are resting and lot and getting plenty of sleep and taking our medication and vitamins.  We both have sinus issues. Hopefully we will be better very soon.  I have even managed a few naps, which I rarely get anymore.

We went to the doctor yesterday afternoon and got the word on what we had.  I was glad we went since my symptoms had started on Thursday afternoon.  I caught it before it turned into a sinus infection.  Ian, unfortunately has a sinus infection.

The drastic change in the weather this week may be part of the problem.  This morning it was below freezing and there was frost on the grass and houses.  It was a lovely sight and I was glad to stay in.

For lunch today, I made chili soup (without beans which I am allergic to) and homemade tortilla chips.  They both were yummy and truly hit the spot.  Ian ate mac ‘n cheese and was happy.  We are also having lots of liquids as you are supposed to do while getting better.

Sometimes you just need a lazy weekend where you stay in your pjs all day and putter around the house.  We are doing this along with the meds.  Guess it can’t be ideal, can it?

Well, I must get back to my book — about a woman who opened a cupcake cafe.  It is a fun book with some great recipes.  Take care and stay well!

I plan to be back to regular postings and my photo challenge by Monday,  Until then, my time will include rest, kleenex, meds, and lots of liquids.
