Hi and Happy Wednesday! Today is the first day of the second week of a new year. Cool, isn’t it? After a 2 1/2 week Christmas break, Ian went back to school. This is the second half of his kindergarten year. He was so excited about it as well.
Last night he was almost too excited to go to sleep but finally did. We talked about being back at school and learning again and about stories that he can create. He enjoys making things up and reading, which I absolutely love.
Then this morning he woke up pretty easily, did his jobs before school without too much complaining, and was ready to go. His jobs are eating his breakfast, taking his vitamins, using the bathroom and washing his hands, brushing his teeth, and getting dressed. We often have a contest to see who can get dressed first.
I made him his lunch, and made sure his backpack had all of his stuff in it. He wanted to include a book that he’d worked on yesterday to share with his class. He drew 7 pages of pictures and then had me transcribe his story. It is inspired by a Lego video he’d seen online.
We bundled up in his new coat that he got at Christmas as well as his gloves. With that he was warm. We walked out to the car, got in it, put up the garage door, started the car with no trouble (thank goodness), backed out and were on our way.
Everything looked very cold and frosty on our way. It was beautiful and we got to see the sun rising. A lovely winter day. Then I parked the car, we got out and walked into the school at the door near his classroom. The grass and leaves crunched under our feet. Ian enjoyed the sound.
We went inside and waited for the bell to ring. There was time to take off Ian’s coat so he was ready to go in, do his classroom jobs, and get started learning. Brrringgg. Bell rings and we walk to the classroom with a big smile on Ian’s face. His teacher said, “I have missed you Ian.” He was very happy to hear this from this teacher as I was.
Being back to school is just the thing he needed. He loves school and loves to learn. For that I am truly thankful! Each Wednesday, our district lets out early and the teachers have inservice time. That way we don’t have to miss entire days for their training.
So a short day will be just the thing for getting back into the routine. Then we’ll have two full days before the weekend. Should be a great rest of the week!
Not only was Ian happy about seeing his teacher and the classroom, he was also happy to see his friends. Today is PE and he was looking forward to that as well.
Today I am thankful for:
- A boy who loves learning
- A school where he is encouraged to learn
- A teacher who truly enjoys teaching and likes having Ian in her class
- Being able to make our son a yummy lunch to eat at school
- A garage where our car stays warm and dry
- Chatting with my son and husband in the morning
- A short trip to the school where we can talk about our day
- Hot tea with creamer
- Hot breakfast
- My fuzzy slippers
- The quiet of the house as I work at home and putter around
- My son’s creativity and zest for life
- My family and friends
- The fun of picking up Ian after a day of school, giving him a snack, and hearing about his day
Whether your kids are back at school or not, I hope and pray that you and they have a terrific day!
