Happy Anniversary / Birthday

Patti_Dad_2006 GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERAHappy Anniversary to my sweet hubby Kirk and Happy Birthday to my wonderful Dad.   It is an honor to celebrate today with these two amazing and important men in my life.

To Dad, I say thank you for teaching me all that you did, for being so attentive and interested in your family and our activities, for showing me the importance of being a good steward with my money, and for spending time with our family.

To Kirk, I want to say thanks so much for loving me as much as you do, for being an amazing father to our son, for being a great friend, partner and so much more, for always making me laugh and for comforting me when I cry, and for sharing in all of the little and important things with me. You are the best!

I remember the day of our wedding so vividly and cherish the memories of both of you that day.  Dad walking me down the aisle to greet my hubby-to-be, having the opportunity to dance with both of you, and being able to share the day is such a gift. You are both such a blessing to me and I thank the Lord for you each day.

Happy Father’s Day!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASANYO DIGITAL CAMERATT.DadDay2DSC00038Hi and Happy Sunday.  Today is Father’s Day.  Happy Father’s Day to my husband and to my dad!

Also, I want to wish a Happy Father’s Day to my brother, father-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, uncles, grandfathers, and friends.  There are many men in my life who are wonderful fathers and I wish the best for all of them.  However, I don’t have photos included of all them in this blog.

Here are photos of two fathers — my father, and my husband with our son.  The first is of Kirk, Ian, and me while on vacation a few years ago.  We were visiting Balboa Park in San Diego.  The second is of Ian and Dad a few years ago at a zoo.  We had a fun day.  The third is Dad and me at a work picnic. The fourth is of a little Ian with his Daddy at the beach.  It is one of my favorites.

On this Father’ Day, may you know how loved you are and may you have a great day.  Hope you can celebrate!  To Dads, you are an important part of your children’s lives, you are men who can teach and give so much, and you bring something special to your families.

Today, I want to wish all the fathers in my life a special day!

Father’s Day Throwback Thursday

TT.DadDay1 TT.DadDay2Hi and Happy Thursday.  In honor of Father’s Day on Sunday, I decided to include pictures with my father for Throwback Thursday.

The first one is at the beach with my mom and dad when I was a baby. I think this was the first time I’d been in the ocean.

I am so thankful that my parents introduced me to the beach at this early age.  I have loved it ever since.  I have a similar picture with Dad and Ian.  I will have to post that again sometime.

The second picture was taken a year and a half before Ian was born.  Dad and I were at a work picnic.  It is one of my favorite pictures of the two of us.  We were having a fun day walking around the park, eating a picnic lunch, and visiting with our co-workers and friends.

Sadly I won’t be able to be with my dad on Father’s Day but will be thinking of him fondly and will give him a call.  We will have time to celebrate later in the month.

I have had many fun times with my dad and for those I am so very thankful.  Times at the beach, Lions Club activities, my wedding on his birthday, and reading and playing with Ian.  He is an amazing father and grandfather.

My dad is awesome and taught me so much and continues to do so.  He is the first man I ever loved.  Thanks Dad for everything!!! You rock!!!

A few quotes about fathers:

I wonder what fun times I will have next with my dad.  I know the times will be something fabulous!

Happy Father’s Day to My Wonderful Dad

That is my dad — special and unique!  Happy Father’s Day to you Dad!

I am sad that we can’t be together to celebrate this special day for you.  Please know that I am thinking of you and look forward to a celebration very soon!

I thank the Lord for my dad!  He has taught me so much and is so loving!

Here I am with Dad in Mission Beach, California when I was a baby.  I loved the water and sand then and still love it today.  And, as I written before, I have many great pictures and memories of my dad with me and my family as well as with dad and the next generation.   That is truly special!

SRP.72.Bill.Mairzy.Patti.late1960sThis next picture was on the porch of the beach house when I was a little older.  I am pictured with both my parents.

This house has always been like a second home to our family.  We are so very blessed to have this location.  Thanks to both of my parents for enabling us to be able to have these vacations.  They are such a huge part of my childhood memories!

Patti_Dad_2006This photo is of the two of us in 2006 at the San Diego airport.  As you can see, the family really loves that city in California.

Dad has always loved me and my brother and sister and for that I am truly and deeply thankful.

One time when I was in college a friend of mine told me how unusual it was that dad truly listened to me and my siblings.  Until hearing that, I had taken him and his attention for granted.  It is sad to realize that not all kids have that.

I was and still am so fortunate to have a great relationship with my dad.  We live only 30 minutes away from one another so there are lots of get-togethers and I love that.

Dad is one of Ian’s favorite people to play with since Dad gets on the floor with him and is at Ian’s level.  It is beautiful to watch.

My dad truly knows what is important in life and savors the time he has with his family.  He is kind, patient, loving, very intelligent, caring, concerned about others, enjoys reading, drinking his morning coffee, biking, traveling, watching sports, playing with and walking his new dog Riley, listening to and singing music, eating ice cream, and is interested in current events.

He had two amazing careers and was wonderful with all of his co-workers or students.  I worked in the same building as him for several years.  It was an honor to talk with my co-workers about him.  They thought the world of him and how fair he was with everyone.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERANow he is crazy about all 5 of his grandkids.  He loves to play with them and interact in their various activities.  In this picture, he and Ian were enjoying smores together.

Thanks Dad for being you!  I am so very blessed to now be friends with you and have you be a fantastic grandpa to my son.

Thanks also for loving Mom, Cindy, Richmond, and me so much.  Thank you to for welcoming your daughter-in-law and two sons-in-law and all of the kids. You have truly taught us the model of a fine man, husband, father, and grandfather!

————————-

Happy Father’s Day also to my wonderful brother Richmond who I love very much!  Also, to my father-in-law, cousins, brothers-in-law, uncles, and friends, Happy Father’s Day.   And, another special wish to my husband, Kirk.  Yesterday, I wrote a special Dad’s Day wish to him.

For those who have lost your fathers, may you remember them fondly.  For those who still have your father, may you be thankful for the time you have and appreciate the relationship.   May you have a wonderful and very blessed Father’s Day!!

Happy Birthday Dad!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU DEAR DAD!!!!

In two days, my father Bill celebrates his birthday.  Happy early Birthday.

These quotes explained the kind of Dad that he was!  I am so blessed and fortunate to have grown up with such a great man in my life!

The reason that I am writing today about Dad is that Wednesday, October 24, is also my 14th anniversary with hubby Kirk.  I will be writing about him on Wednesday.

Dad was nice enough to share his birthday with us when we got married.  At the rehearsal dinner, we enjoyed a cake which said “Father of the Bride” on it.

Pictured to the right is one of my favorite pictures with my Dad — at least from when I was a very young child!

My father is a very special man and was a fantastic role model and dad growing up.  He enjoyed spending time with the three of us kids — me, my sister Cindy, and my brother Richmond — and he was interested in us and our activities.  He actually and fully listened to us and was engaged in our lives and still is.  What a gift that has been!!

For many years he worked in human resources and we worked in the same building for a while.  It was always fun to talk to people about him and have them tell me what a great and fair man my dad was.

After retiring from that job, he took a year off and had a blast!  He then decided to try a second career in teaching.  He took a year and a half to earn his master’s degree.  He then taught 5th grade at a small school one county over from where he lived.  He truly cared for each and every child that he worked with.

He has since retired from that position as well and now has a lot more time to spend with family — his wife and kids, grandkids as well as his sister and mother. Pictured are Mom and Dad with my family on Easter morning.

I learned so much from my father over the years.  He was always great with money and helped me with a tough patch.  Several years after I graduated from college, I had racked up some debts so I moved back home for a while to help pay them off.  When I moved out, he said, “This will never happen again, right Patti.  We love you but you can’t move back in again.”  That is exactly what I needed to hear!  He was so right.  I then was able to get my financial act together and a few years later met Kirk.

He has taught me too about real love, compassion, caring about others, thinking about life and what I believe in, forgiveness, patience, volunteerism, and how to truly be in the moment with a child.

We were in the Lions Club together and that was a very special bond.  Neither of us have been as active lately, but hopefully that can change.  It was fun to attend meetings and activities with him.

Now he has a ball with all of his grandchildren.  He has five of them ranging in age from 15 to 5 years old.  He gets in the floor to play with Ian and Ian loves time with his Augaguk (the name he made up when he couldn’t say Grandpa).  They have a special bond that is marvelous to see.

I love you very much Dad and so appreciate the man you are!  Hope you have a wonderful birthday!  Thanks again for sharing your special day with Kirk and me!

Reunited

There was a song in the 1980s with the line, “Reunited and it feels so good.”

I was recently reunited with my husband Kirk and it’s been great to see him again!  Because of his work and me going to a family reunion/vacation, we had a month apart.

That wasn’t fun but we could at least talk regularly and communicated by e-mail.  Still, it isn’t the same as seeing each other every day and I really missed him, despite all of the people I was with.

During this time I thought about all of the military families who are apart for 6 months to a year or even longer.  I honestly don’t know how they do it!  I have a new respect for them and how they have to live for our freedoms.  My hat is off to these families and their friends as well.

Ian has also enjoyed being reunited with his daddy.  “I missed you Daddy,” he told Kirk.  This morning when he woke up, he made a point to come in and see his Daddy and make sure we were still together.

They gave each other hugs and talked and said “I Love You” to one another.  It was a beautiful thing to watch!  They are right back to their normal pattern and relationship!

Throughout the month, Ian would occasionally ask about Daddy but didn’t always want to talk to him on the phone. A few times he did and told him all about our adventures and that he was learning lots of new things.

Reunited and it feels so good!  Indeed, it is wonderful to reunite with the ones you love.

Some Random Thoughts

Hi to you!  Hope you are having a great first official day of summer!

Looks like it will be hot in a large part of the country today!  Try and stay and cool.

Our first day is so far so good.  This morning we watched a show about the Duggar family (which had 16 kids at the time of this special) as they went on a road trip to Disneyland.

It was amazing to see the stuff they took with them — just food and clothing overfilled their motor home.  They had to move some items to a separate trailer just so the motor home could go up the hill.

Ian was fascinated watching their adventures and trying to understand that many people in a family.  We’ll be enjoying a family reunion this summer with nearly that number in a small house.  So, we’ll see what it’s like.  Should be fun!!

As you know I have been working on losing weight.  This week my sister-in-law gave me a great suggestion for an exercise video.  I am going to see if I can find it.  I like being able to exercise at home or in my neighborhood so this will fit in nicely!

Over the last few weeks, I haven’t been losing very much weight, but I have noticed that my body’s shape is changing.  And for that I am happy.  Some of my clothes are fitting better and are more comfortable.

I have to remember that the changes aren’t only on the scale.  In addition, the exercise is getting easier and I can do things for a longer period of time.  My baby steps seem to be working!

———————-

This week, my husband has made Ian a house out of a cardboard box.  They added a mailbox, doorknob, hook for a jacket inside, and a lock.  And, Ian has keys.

He is having a great time with his house.  And, learning the responsibility of keeping up with his keys is really important.  He has drawn a few pictures on the walls — one of a big truck and the other of clouds in the sky — including frames.

The guy time has been great for them and also for me.

Hope you have a great rest of the week!  Please share some of what you are doing this summer!  I would love to hear from you!

Here is a fun quote for you: “A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken.”  ~James Dent

Happy Father’s Day!

“He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.”  ~Clarence Budington Kelland

That is a quote about the best kind of father.  I was blessed to have one like that!  And, I love you Dad.  Happy Father’s Day to you!

Today, I hope that you have had a wonderful father’s day!  Mine has been great so far.  I went to church with my husband, son, and father-in-law.  We had a great service and enjoyed communion together.

And, the choir sang a gorgeous blessing that was sung at our wedding.  It was great to be with my father-in-law at his church.

We then went to lunch and enjoyed a great variety of yummy food.  And, the guys opened their cards.  Ian drew pictures in everyone’s cards so they were extra special.  He has become quite the artist.

Today, it has been great to celebrate with my husband.  I love him and am so glad to be married to him.  He is a friend, my love, and someone I enjoy being with.  And, he is a wonderful father to our son.  He truly loves and cares for our son and we are so blessed.  They have a special bond.

This afternoon, I talked to my dad on the phone since we couldn’t be together today.  He enjoyed the card we sent him and Ian’s artwork both on the card and the envelope.

My dad has always been the greatest father and always so loving and kind.  And, he always truly listened to us growing up.  I was frustrated that we couldn’t be together but we will be soon and can celebrate then.

I am blessed to have men in my family who are great fathers!  My brother and brothers-in-law are all wonderful with their children, as are my cousins, uncles, and friends.  Happy Father’s Day to all of you!

If your father, our spouse who was a father are in Heaven, I hope and pray that you can remember the fun you had with him and enjoyed having him be a part of your life.
