Happy Late Father’s Day

Patti_Dad_2006 SANYO DIGITAL CAMERAHi and Happy Monday.  We were super busy for half the weekend and then yesterday enjoyed a lazy day, so I am behind on my father’s day wishes.

Happy Father’s Day to my Dad!  You have taught me so much throughout my entire life.  Also, you have always given me love, and your attention and opinion on things.  For these things, I am truly thankful.

Happy Father’s Day to my wonderful hubby Kirk.  You are a great dad to our son!  I love you so very much.  I am glad to be parenting with you.  You are a true and wonderful partner who I am truly blessed to have in my life.

Happy Father’s Day to my brother, brothers-in-law, cousins, uncles, and friends!  You all are amazing examples to your children.  I am glad to know you and love how you are with your children!

A few quotes about fathers:

  • “He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.” ~Clarence Budington Kelland
  • “Dad, you’re someone to look up to no matter how tall I’ve grown.” ~Author Unknown
  • “I don’t care how poor a man is; if he has family, he’s rich.” ~M*A*S*H, Colonel Potter
  • “Any man can be a father. It takes someone special to be a dad.” ~Author Unknown

I may be late with my wishes, but they are sincere!  Love to all you Dads!

Happy 7th Birthday Ian!!

GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERASeven years ago at this time, I held a newborn baby boy in my arms. That morning, we met Ian Cates for the first time. So much has changed from that day to now. It is truly amazing. I have loved seeing Ian learn how to do things, discover the fun of reading, and share his own thoughts and ideas.

He is a sweet soul who cares about others, enjoys playing and having fun, enjoys special time with Mom and Dad, and time with his grandparents and other family, and loves to play and tell stories. It is hard to believe our boy is 7 years old today. My how those years have flown.

This morning before school, we put candles on his biscuit for breakfast. He enjoyed blowing them out and loved hearing me sing Happy Birthday to him. Tonight we are having a birthday dinner with family. He is excited about that as well.

He enjoys his birthday and enjoys making a big deal about it. He was appreciative about the gift we gave him this morning as well. “Thanks, Mom and Dad,” he said with a smile that stretched from ear to ear.

This picture was taken several months ago. It is amazing that now he looks more like a little man than a little boy. I am not exactly sure when that happened, but it certainly did.

Today I am thankful for:

  • A boy with dimples and a wonderful smile
  • Big blue eyes that are full of wonder and love
  • October 2 for that is the day we met this amazing boy
  • Hugs and hearing, “I love you Mom”
  • Ian appreciating a special gift
  • Making meals and sweet treats with a boy wearing an apron that is a little too big
  • Reading a hand-written note that says, “Mommy, I will love you forever”
  • Hearing Ian pray at meal time
  • Watching him play, discover, and learn

I never thought I could love someone as much as I love my hubby and our son. They are two amazing blessings who I am very thankful for. Today I will enjoy looking back on all the phases of our sweet birthday boy.

I wonder if I can savor each moment of Ian’s birthday?!  I plan to do just that and look forward to him getting out of school today.

Happy Father’s Day!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASANYO DIGITAL CAMERATT.DadDay2DSC00038Hi and Happy Sunday.  Today is Father’s Day.  Happy Father’s Day to my husband and to my dad!

Also, I want to wish a Happy Father’s Day to my brother, father-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, uncles, grandfathers, and friends.  There are many men in my life who are wonderful fathers and I wish the best for all of them.  However, I don’t have photos included of all them in this blog.

Here are photos of two fathers — my father, and my husband with our son.  The first is of Kirk, Ian, and me while on vacation a few years ago.  We were visiting Balboa Park in San Diego.  The second is of Ian and Dad a few years ago at a zoo.  We had a fun day.  The third is Dad and me at a work picnic. The fourth is of a little Ian with his Daddy at the beach.  It is one of my favorites.

On this Father’ Day, may you know how loved you are and may you have a great day.  Hope you can celebrate!  To Dads, you are an important part of your children’s lives, you are men who can teach and give so much, and you bring something special to your families.

Today, I want to wish all the fathers in my life a special day!

**To my husband, I am so glad you are the father of our child.  You are a kind and loving man and a great daddy to our son.  Our son is blessed to have you as his father and for your influence in his life.  You have enriched my life in many, many ways.  I am honored to be on this parenting journey and life’s journey with you.   Love you!

**To my Dad, thanks so much for all that you have taught me.  You have shown me love, patience, kindness, and so much more.  The importance of your children to you has been awesome as well.   I always liked that you listened to me and made time for the three of your children.  Now, I love that you love Kirk and our son and all of your family just as much.

**”To my brother, I am glad to have known you your entire life and almost all of mine.  I am so thankful we are friends and regularly see each other.  You are an amazing man, father, and husband. I love you and am proud of all that you have become!

**To my father-in-law, we are glad to be with you to celebrate the special day for fathers!  I have learned a lot from you and appreciate all you have done for your children and grandchildren.

**To my six brothers-in-law, you all are important and special to me and are men who I am glad to call friends.  You are great dads as well.  So glad to have all of you in my family!

**To my cousins, I love each and every one of you so very much.  I have been blessed to know you all of my life.  You truly were my first friends.  All of you who are fathers are wonderful!

**To my uncles,  thanks so much for being there for me throughout my life.  I appreciate all you have taught me and shown me.

**To my grandfathers, I love you and miss you very much.  One of you I knew and the other I never had the pleasure of meeting.  You both truly loved and appreciated your families and for that I am forever grateful.

**To my friends who are fathers,  hope you have a fabulous day with your families and can enjoy your time.  I am also glad you are a part of our lives.

To all fathers, may you have a wonderful day!  Thanks so much for all that you do for our children.

I want to close with a few quotes about fathers:

Happy Birthday Isaac!

Today is my nephew Isaac’s 15th birthday!  Happy Birthday to you dear Isaac!

He was the first grandchild for my parents and a very special boy.  I remember when he was born and how great it was to see his smile and bright, big eyes!

When he was born, I was single and hadn’t yet met Kirk.  Then by the time he was 1-year-old, we got married.  Amazing how much time has gone by!

He has grown into a fine young man who I am very proud of.  Isaac is fun to talk with and spend time with.  Unfortunately there isn’t enough time to do that since we are all so busy.

The picture above is from early summer when we were together.  He is pictured with Ian.  As you can see they are both all smiles.  And, later in the summer we had a week together at the beach and it was fabulous!  So many wonderful memories and great photos.

Isaac is fascinated with learning about various wars, likes to read, and plays the trumpet in his marching band.  He is a busy and very active teenager.  He also likes a variety of movies and television shows and just like his father did, can quote his favorites.

His dad is my brother, Richmond.  He was the youngest of the three of us and the first to have a child.  He has been a great dad to both Isaac and Isaac’s sister Rachel.  And, their mother is Beckie who is my second sister.  I love my family and am happy to know this branch of it!

Isaac, I hope that you have a great birthday, fun with your friends, and a fun birthday party tonight.  I only wish we could be there to celebrate with you.  We do love you and will be thinking of you today!

A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun.  Enjoy the trip.”  ~Author Unknown

Reunited

There was a song in the 1980s with the line, “Reunited and it feels so good.”

I was recently reunited with my husband Kirk and it’s been great to see him again!  Because of his work and me going to a family reunion/vacation, we had a month apart.

That wasn’t fun but we could at least talk regularly and communicated by e-mail.  Still, it isn’t the same as seeing each other every day and I really missed him, despite all of the people I was with.

During this time I thought about all of the military families who are apart for 6 months to a year or even longer.  I honestly don’t know how they do it!  I have a new respect for them and how they have to live for our freedoms.  My hat is off to these families and their friends as well.

Ian has also enjoyed being reunited with his daddy.  “I missed you Daddy,” he told Kirk.  This morning when he woke up, he made a point to come in and see his Daddy and make sure we were still together.

They gave each other hugs and talked and said “I Love You” to one another.  It was a beautiful thing to watch!  They are right back to their normal pattern and relationship!

Throughout the month, Ian would occasionally ask about Daddy but didn’t always want to talk to him on the phone. A few times he did and told him all about our adventures and that he was learning lots of new things.

Reunited and it feels so good!  Indeed, it is wonderful to reunite with the ones you love.
