Happy (Late) Siblings Day / Three of A Kind

3 kidsHi and Happy Friday!  I am a day late with Siblings Day, but still wanted to write about my brother and sister.  I found out this morning that it was Siblings Day on April 10.  Where have I been?

And, Today’s photo challenge is Three of A Kind.  I’d have to say that the three of us are that.  We are alike in a lot of ways, yet different too!  So, these photos speak for that as well.  Here is a photo taken in the fall of last year and the one below is from 2006.

I love my sister Cindy and my brother Richmond.  We are all close and I feel very fortunate for that.  We may not have gotten along all the time as kids but now as adults with our own families, our relationships have changed for the better.  What a blessing!

We regularly get together and that is great.  Most times when we are with our parents, Mom wants to take a picture of the three of us.  So we probably have hundreds.  And, each and every one is a great memory of our time together.

To celebrate this day, I received very nice notes and pictures from my bro and sis. My sister said she is blessed to have a brother and sister who have shared summers at the beach, afternoons playing in the woods, grandpa’s stories, mom’s camp fire fun, and dad’s driving lessons.  My brother shared a funny picture of the three of us sneaking cookies at Mom and Dad’s house and mentioned, after all these years, we still steal cookies.

DSC06098Aren’t they awesome?  I sure think so.  To both of them, I say thank you for these kind words and love!  We have shared so many wonderful memories, have laughed a lot, have been in each other’s weddings, have been there when our children were born, and have shared some tough times losing our grandparents.

I couldn’t ask for a better sister and brother.  I only wish I could see them more than I do.  I also love each of their spouses!  They are my siblings as well and I am happy that they are part of us and our family.

I am blessed to have a brother and sister who have shared a cross-country trip in our small hatchback, camping at state parks and making s’mores, family singalongs, stories by Grandpa, playing pounce, long summers at the beach, playing in our back yard and neighborhood, often walking to school, sharing holidays and birthdays, the Highland Games, Easter sunrise services outside at the marina, and many more special times.

I love my sister and brother!  Happy late Siblings Day to the two of you!

Happy Birthday Dear Richmond!

SRP.33.Patti_Richmond.1990Today, December 28, is my brother’s Birthday! Happy Birthday to you dear Richmond. This picture was taken in 1990 at the beach and is one of my favorites.  It cracks me up how similar our hairdos are.

I am 5 years older than my bro and we are very close.  It wasn’t always that way – at least not when we were growing up.  But, we overcame that and put aside our sibling rivalry junk. Now we are adults who love to spend time together and have our families get together.

It is a blessing to have shared all that we did with our sister Cindy and be able to come out the other side as friends who enjoy being together.  The three of us are pictured below.  And, I must admit it is amazing that we are now in our 40s.  Where did the time go?  How did I fly by so quickly?

It did and we have made a point to keep in regular contact since we no longer live in the same towns.  We get together when we can and our kids enjoy being together too.

Richmond has a great job, a wonderful family, is a lot of fun, and makes me laugh.  He is a fan of U2, dress clothes, and loves to quote movies.  I just wish we could spend more time together.

Tonight is his birthday party and I unfortunately won’t be able to be there, but will be in spirit.  With my son having been sick this week, Kirk and I decided to rest and stay closer to home.  I am, however, looking forward to photos and hearing about the evening.

Richmond, I hope that you have a wonderful birthday and can have fun and do what you like!   May you have a blessed birthday and another amazing trip around the sun!  I love you bro!!!

My Family Rocks!

girls at beachI don’t know about you but I have a fabulous family!!!

Yesterday was a luncheon celebration for my sister’s birthday.  Her name is Cindy and she rocks.  Here we are as kids.  I wanted to post this picture again since it is one of my favorites of the two of us!

We had a great time at a new restaurant.  I had a Cobb salad and fried green tomatoes — yummy.  Others had burgers or other salads.

It just so happens that this place is owned by two guys from my high school class.  I thought that was cool.

Anyway, we had 17 people at the table for lunch and it was fantastic.  My parents were there as well as me with Kirk and Ian.  Also, there were my sister and her hubby and two kids; my brother, his wife, and two kids, and my cousin, her hubby and one of her two kids and my aunt.

It was a table of love and happiness.  And many great memories!

I enjoyed talking to my brother and sister-in-law about their vacation they were returning from, catching up with all of the kids and their summer plans, my cousin and sister about a variety of items, and chatting with everyone.

We also took quite a few pictures as we always do!!

We enjoyed a great lunch, sang happy birthday, my sister blew out her candles, and then we enjoyed a delicious cake with yellow flowers.

My family has always made a big deal about birthdays.  We celebrate each member of the family and that has always been special.

It was great to visit with everyone and have such fun!!

I hope that you too have a rockin’ family!!

Happy Anniversary

I’d like to propose a toast to my brother and his wife and my sister and her husband.

Happy Anniversary to my siblings and their spouses this week!

My brother, Richmond, and his wife Beckie, celebrated their 18th anniversary yesterday!  My sister, Cindy, and her husband, Cody, celebrate their 19th anniversary today!

They are both close to 20 years of marriage.  That is very impressive and something to be celebrated!  Thus, the toast which I wish I could share with them in person!!

I remember being in both weddings and what fun they were.  In Cindy’s wedding, I was honored to be the maid of honor!  What fun it was to see her walk down the aisle in her gorgeous cream wedding gown that a friend of ours made and all of the wedding party dressed in cream and green outfits.  It was great to have Cody join our family.

And, then a year later, Richmond and Beckie wed.  I was a bridesmaid and we wore beautiful purple gowns.  This was one of my favorite bridesmaid’s dresses (no nightmare outfit there!!).  It was fun to have another sister in our family and to see my brother so happy!!

I am the oldest of the three of us, yet I was the one who married last in our family (5 years after Cindy).  All of us found and married our true loves at the right times in our lives.  And, for that I am thankful.

Both of these couples have shown me what marriage and real commitment are all about!  They have shown love and caring for one another, they have fun together, and are great to be around.  True love is an amazing thing to see!

I think all of us learned about the commitment of marriage from our parents who celebrated 47 years this summer, our grandparents who were married 66 years before my grandfather died, and our great-grandparents who were married for 70+ years.  We come from a long line of long marriages!!  Cool, isn’t it?

And, they have taught me about parenthood and how to discipline a child with love.  I am so proud of Cindy and Cody and Richmond and Beckie and their wonderful children.  And, I remember when they all were born.  Each one is so different yet so very special.

My family is such a blessing to me and I am so fortunate to be close to them!  I love you Cindy, Cody, Gussie, and Aiden; and Richmond, Beckie, Isaac and Rachel!
