The Blessing of Beginnings and Endings

cropped-champagne-glasses.jpgHappy almost New Year! In some parts of the world, it is already 2017.  We have hours left where we live.  Tonight will be a low-key night at home with good food and some time to relax and celebrate.  We will ring in the new year before midnight since school will be starting back soon.

One year will be ending and another beginning.  2016 was a good one since I had a high school reunion, caught up with several friends, served half the year as PTO president and look forward to the second half, spent lots of time with family, took many pictures, celebrated 18 years of marriage, celebrated Ian’s 9th birthday, remembered some loved ones that we lost and were sad to say goodbye to, sang and danced, and so much more.

I look forward to 2017 and what is in store.  I hope that all of the upcoming changes will be good.  And, I hope that we can begin to be kind to each other again and find ways to work together.  I also hope for peace, kindness, health, love, and blessings for my loved ones.

During our winter holiday break, we watched Rudolph and the Red Nosed Reindeer and the lesser known Rudolph and the Shiny New Year.  Ian enjoyed both movies very much.  Each were fun.  And each had some good messages about being kind and loving to others.  And the value of friendship and support.

Here are a few New Year quotes:

  • Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right. ~ Oprah Winfrey
  • Hope and faith flower from the cheerful seeds of the old year to the sprouting garden of the new year’s dawn. ~ Terri Guillemets
  • A Happy New Year! There is a glow of cheer and optimism in the very words “New Year.” The old year, with its anxieties and worries, is over. It too brought happy days and sunshine, and in memory we must cherish the bright places. ~ May Louise Crane
  • A new year is simply the turn of a calendar page — and a beautiful chance for us to turn over a new leaf. ~ Terri Guillemets
  • May all your troubles last as long as your New Year’s resolutions. ~ Arnold Glasow
  • We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day. ~ Edith Lovejoy Pierce
  • Lord, as the New Year dawns today,
    Help me to put my faults away.
    Let me be big in little things;
    Grant me the joy which friendship brings;
    Keep me from selfishness and spite,
    Let me be wise to what is right.
    A Happy New Year! grant that I
    May cause no tear to any eye.
    When this new year in time shall end,
    Let it be said: “I’ve played the friend,
    Have lived and loved and labored here
    And made of it a happy year.”
    ~Edgar Guest (1881–1959), “Prayer for the New Year”
