An Ordinary Life — Well, Sort Of

5minutefridayHello and Happy Friday!  Hope you have a great weekend planned.  Today’s topic for Five Minute Friday is Ordinary.

Here are the rules:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community…

Now Go…

There was a movie made by Hallmark called, The Magic of Ordinary Days.  I like that title since it takes away the bad connotation of ordinary.  And, it raises the question of if there can be magic in ordinary days and circumstances?

I think the answer is yes.  Amazing things can happen in the normalcy that is often our life.

As I said in the title, well, sort of.  Some days are extraordinary and the best things possible happen.  Like a few nights ago, Ian read most of his new book to me.  I helped him with sounding out words he didn’t know, but he read most of it.  That is part of his learning to read, but it is an exciting part and he was very proud of himself.

I also think that my life is often ordinary — meaning the same thing seems to occur. And there is routine.  That to me is a good thing and seems to be working with us now that our son is in school.  My days through the week are often the same but so far, that is comforting and a good thing.

Websters.com defines Ordinary as “of no special value or interest; plain or undistinguished; or customary, usual, normal.”

I don’t really like most of these definitions but they are what they are.  I suppose the thing is to find the special in our ordinary.  Then again, sometimes there is great comfort in an ordinary day.

May you make the most of your day – whether ordinary or not.  I will try to do the same.

Now STOP!!
