This is a great exercise for practicing writing and seeing what you come up with. Here are the rules:
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..
The topic for Friday, March 22, is Remember.
The first thing that comes to mind with Remember is the phrase in communion which states, “Do this in remembrance of me.” That is what the pastor said in the church I grew up in.
But I have visited a church recently that states, “Do this for the remembrance of me.” I don’t like that version for some reason and I can’t put my finger on why. It just doesn’t seem as strong in the meaning of remembering Christ’s body and blood.
Another item that comes to mind about remember is the great Amy Grant song, “I Will Remember You.” This is a great song with wonderful lyrics! I really like the words and enjoy singing it. When you are connected to people, they are always in your life and you can remember all of the great times with them.
I also like to remember my friends and family and the amazing things that we have done. Memories are great and can remind you of a great time in your life.
I remember the day my son was born like it was yesterday. I remember seeing his sweet face for the first time and realizing, oh my goodness, I am now responsible for this new and precious life. Yikes, the responsibility!
I remember my wedding day and the fun of eating my lunch while wearing a towel over my wedding dress so I wouldn’t spill anything. Several dear friends and family have passed away since that day, but many others have been born. The circle of life does go on.
I remember the house I grew up in. I remember the shag carpet downstairs which was always colder than upstairs. I remember fires in the fireplace and eating popcorn and hot chocolate. I remember flower wallpaper on the kitchen walls. I remember many fun times with my family and friends.
Well, that is my first 5 minutes of the 5 Minute Friday. I hope to make this a weekly event. Have a great week.
I wonder what else I will remember throughout my day. I am sure it will be plenty!!
